I once heard a coach say there was no difference in the number one class and the number 20 class. Was he right or just full of it.

Most NC teams in 3 years of winning have had a top 10 if not top 5 recuiting class.
It matters

You tell me, here are teams that have been ranked number 1 in recruiting: Alabama, USC, Florida, LSU, Texas

Here are some that have been ranked around 20: Virginia, Washington, Ole Miss, Texas Tech

Not terrible programs but you can see the difference

While I do agree with that. You still need to find kids that fit you scheme with the talent level that can compete with other teams getting kids to fit there scheme.

Coaching plays a huge part in player development. Stars are nice, but not always accurate. Teams should know what and who they want and need. Also, players need to have a good work ethic in the classroom as well. As I recall, bUTch not only won the big east coach of the year in 2011, but his team also won the academic award that year, too. Let's get behind the coaches and players and help them every chance we get. GBO

So your ok with a #20 ranked class every year?
Because Im not.

I get what your saying but.....then again I want a
top 10 most of the time, with this year being an exception.

I want UT to be number 1 year in and year out, but bUTch and the coaching staff will need to pick up players for the teams needs, which are many at this point. If I played high school football and wanted to be able to play pretty much first year on through, I would definitely look at UT with its rich football history, etc.....

I am going to take a stab at this one and say...yes there is, but at the same time a team has to fill its needs.

The OP was asking about the Diff. between 1 and 20 not if we need to fill needs. We all know we need to do that.
I was just trying to talk about the diff. I was under the impression you thought that there was no diff. as long as your feeling your needs. Thats not OK.
Unless those recruits you are feeling your needs with match up talent wise with the rest of your competition, because there getting top 10 classes while feeling needs.

Our record could have been alot different this year if some of our offensive guys had been big time defensive players.

I can't remember a national championship team with under a #20 class recently without having top 15 to 10 classes.
