Strong 9
Fisher 9
Gundy 8.5
Butch Davis 7.5
Fedora 7
Golden 5.5

I rated Strong this high because of his extensive SEC experience and ability to recruit in the South, especially Florida. I like Gundy, but my concerns with him are twofold: 1) ability to recruit in the South and 2) he is known for his offense and will have to hire a good DC. I primarily marked Davis down due to his age. Fedora is a poor man's Mike Gundy in my opinion, although he does have some SEC background. Golden does nothing for me and would not energize the fanbase whatsoever IMO. Overall, I think this is a pretty strong list of candidates (maybe with the exception of Golden).

With names like Fisher, Gundy, Golden, Strong. It is obvious these are not homerun hires. I feel that things are not looking up for Tennessee. So rating them is not who we want the most, rather who we least want and this is depressing!

I think Mora would be intriguing, but doesn't appear interested.

I think those names are pretty strong (no pun intended). May not be Gruden or Stoops, but list is pretty good IMO. I think in long run we will be better off with a Strong or Gundy IN THE LONG RUN than Gruden, which I am sure will not be a popular position on here.

Davis is as good if not better than any name on that list as a coach, too bad he is a little slimy.

I hope you are right you are right. I just don't see these candidates as progress. But I will certainly give whoever the chiice is all my support.

Maybe its me, but how the hell u gauge someones ability to recruit if they have been an assistant coach for most of their career. Strong, in particular, has only been HC for 3 yrs and in a very weak conference at that. Recruits, or good ones at least, dont sign on for the assistant. They sign on for the program or the HC. Chavis has been a DC for more years, and better at it than any of these up-n-comers, but everyone is so high on strong. I don't get it. He was 7-6, 7-6 in his first 2 yrs. Got a great QB now and went 10-2. But this against some if the weakest competition in FBS.

Jimbo Fisher above Butch Davis?

...sigh.

I know. Anige was talking about it this morning. He said that if you got a group of unbais coachs together and asked out of all those names who is the best coach. He said all of them would say Davis. The guy is the best recruiter list, thats not even debatable and Right now he is getting paid to tell Tampa Bay who to draft next. So you know he has a eye for talnet. I mean the guy had UNC pulling top classes and ranked ffs.

Gundy - 9.0 (would love to have him but I don't see him leaving)
Mora - 8.0 (I would love to have Mora as well but I also don't see him leaving)
Fisher - 8.0 (great recruiter and I think a better coach than he gets credit for)
Strong - 8.0 (has done more with less than almost anyone, and I think he would be a great recruiter at UT)
Fedora - 7.5 (he has won every where he's been)
Golden - 7.0 (hard to judge him at this point with what he walked into at Miami)
Davis - (good coach and recruiter but not so great at running a clean program)

I like the discussion but I look at it in a different light:

Davis 9 (did great at Miami, decent at basketball school UNC, and will take the job)
Strong 8 (solid coach and can recruit)
Fedora 7 (Can obviously coach, but can he recruit in SEC?)
Golden 6(he is the tallest pygmy in this group)
Fisher 5.5 (he is using us for a raise and a pat on the back)
Gundy 5 (see Fisher above)

This is the best ranking I've seen on this site so far. There is hope for VN
