Watched a special on the BTN of the 94 Nebraska team and they talked a little about Lawrence Phillips. I remember in 97 after the Florida game when coaching staff started letting Jamal Lewis play and announcers compared him to Hershal. IMO Hershal is the all-time SEC greatest RB maybe all time best in my generation. Lewis was a different type back than previous TN greats but how do you guys compare him to Lawrence Phillips (on the field)?

Freshman season, once he learned the blocking schemes and could protect Manning on pass plays, he was awesome in helping us win the S.E.C. that season.

Sophomore season, he was great until his injury at Auburn.

Junior season, he did just enough to keep his starting position and not get injured, so he could enter the draft healthy....

He had four games in his freshman season in which he saw limited play. He had no playing time in 10 games his sophomore season. He under performed his junior season....

Herschel also was enough of a hoss to get the call when it's 4th and 1 or 4th and goal and those plays hurt your average -- what was AJ's ypc this year?

Bo was almost as good of a back, but he had a bit of prima dona quitter in him, sort of like that Memphis State back of a couple yrs ago.

I saw em play; would not hesitate to take Herschel over Bo.

I rember going to that game wanting to see him play and after warm ups he told coach he didn't wanna play that day. Can you say sceered? Phillips was in same catagory as Walker, Dupree and Campbell. IMO

His freshman year, Lewis was as good as anyone not named Bo.

His injury and the way he played after it hurts how many remember him.

People can always move favorites around to suit their tastes and bias (which stat(s) to put the most emphasis on) but it is simply inconceivable to me that Barry Sanders not even make people's short list.

I thought we were talking about college backs, not pro.

You're kidding, right? Sanders '88 season is regarded by many as the single greatest season ever. 2,628 rushing, 3,248 total, 39tds, 7.6ypc. (and that's NOT including the bowl game where he added 222yds and 5tds)

Again, you can pick your favorite but Sanders needs to be on every short list.
