Can someone catch me up with what is going on with the recruiting of RB's?? Seems like it would be an easy sell with Hurd and Karama going to NFL but it doesn't look like we are having an easy time picking up any.

Kamara to NFL is not a done deal in my opinion - really depends on how this year goes as he didn't apparently grade that high last year. If Hurd carries most of the load, which he should, and Kamara still doesn't get to showcase his full potential, I could definitely see another year for him to be the workhorse.

I'm guessing recruits are playing it safe. Come December they will know what's happening with Hurd and Kamara. Jump in before and one or both decide to stay and you're likely sitting as a FR. The whole play early pitch is out the window. I think both go and I think we get Chandler and likely one more. Akers I believe goes elsewhere.

The initial pitch is "Not a single player drafted in the past two years". All of us understand exactly why, but 16-17 y/O's with Bama, UGA or FSU in their ear may not instantly see as clearly.

Uga is killing it in recruiting. Smart is not going to waste the talent like Hunt did. That's what I fear. I am very worried about them.

Kirby is selling PT like Butch did. Kids are buying in just like they did at UT early on. Comes down to how Smart does win/loss wise being able to sustain it. He's focused on instate kids as well.

You are correct. Most people don't realize that despite Butch being a great recruiter, his biggest sell was PT. We don't have PT anymore. The biggest sell now is Wins. We don't have it yet but will have it soon !!

Our RB situation is pretty straight forward. We have one RB in Coleman. We are focusing on Akers/Chandler. It seems like we have good momentum with Chandler. We have a realistic shot at Akers but he probably lands elsewhere. If that's the case then look for someone like Mcfarland Jr. Damon Williams

in most positions, the difference btwn a 4* and a 5* is not that big of a deal, but with RB it is uniquely noticeable. And with this scheme, RB is as important as QB was in the Cutcliffe offense. We have to land a big time RB, have to. Can't win championships with this offensive scheme and not have a stud RB. All to say, even though its July, I'm nervous where we on this.

I feel confident that we will land Chandler.

This is only what we're hoping

It was a gamble to just sign one RB in this last class knowing Hurd and Kamara are likely gone barring injury and all we will have on the roster is J Kelly and Fils-Aime.
I believe Hubbs made a comment early on that the staff had stated RB and DLine were the top priorities in this class.
With the way we use RB's in this system, and the success we've had, and it being a priority position, I'm surprised to see where we are right now.
A lot can change and surely will but you would think we would have our pick with this system and no depth

And I really hope to see us sign three RB's in this class to give us a whopping total of 5 scholarship RB's on the roster.

We are in deep trouble for sure. Losing Richardson to Clemson was a huge loss. We haven't been able to lock up Chandler or Akers. We are slow playing Hayden. We have one lowly ranked 3 star RB in Coleman who had a poor offer list. The fact that is all we have at the moment gives you am idea of just how poorly Butch is doing in recruiting this year. I don't see any way Kamara comes back next year. He would have very little to gain.

Fact is, nobody knows what kind of HC Smart is going to become, and it won't be known for probably a couple of years. I agree, UGA can be a long term headache, but I'm not conceding anything to them. I believe we have the advantage this year due to the QB situation at both, but that all changes next year.

Think you are correct. UGA has recruited well for as long as I can remember. They are always going to get good classes. If we are not bringing in highly ranked classes every year then UGA is going to eat our lunch.

UGA has recruited like beasts almost every year forever. We still hold our own with them. Not concerned until they show otherwise.

Agree. Decent shot with Chandler while Akers seems like a longshot at best. With the way instate recruiting is going to date, certainly not counting Chandler anywhere near a sure thing at this point. Got a feeling we're gonna wind up having to go down the list a good bit.

I don't think Akers is a long shot. We are right there with OSU and OM. I just don't think he chooses us, especially with Chandler probably being a Vol.

KB, why are you so freaking negative lately??

Unlike Higgins, our offense is Tailor made for Mr. Chandler
After we win the East, Chandler might not even be our best option on the table come December- Feb.

Kinda tough to be positive about recruiting at this point IMO.

We've had 1 ACC team come into Tennessee and take 3 of the top 7 players in the state....including a 5star WR in Butch's backyard after that WR just named us his leader a week or 2 ago.

One of our only three 4 star players is no longer committed (probably Butch's doing but still). The state's top-rated player Jacoby Stevens won't even give us a sniff and now it looks like Deangelo Gibbs has gone from a forgone conclusion to join Warrior in our secondary to someone we'll have to contend with for the next 3-4 years when we play Georgia.

Trey Smith didn't seem to be overly impressed with our staff pretty much packing up operations and turning USJ in Jackson to Haslam Field West for a day all just solely for the purposes of impressing him.....with the help of several all-time great Vol legends there just to help recruit him.

So why should I or any other fan be positive about 2017 recruiting at the moment? There ain't much to be excited about, no? It appears we're in pretty good shape with Chandler, but who really knows? I thought we were in very good shape with Higgins less than 48 hours ago. And, jmho, but from what I read, Akers is indeed a longshot, especially given who else he's considering.

If you want some positivity from me, here goes....I think we're about to have a special season with the guys Butch and crew have assembled the last 3 seasons. I think we're gonna win the East (despite a loss to Florida, again), and I firmly believe we're headed to Atlanta. I think we win 11-12 games all told in 2016.

I'm even a little positive about us settling the lawsuit and what that can possibly do to help with recruiting, although I do believe settling it likely invites another one in the near future to be filed against us yet again.....but perhaps for the time being, it's a positive for the staff and the 2017 class.

But tell the truth Little....is this even remotely where you thought our class would be (yes, I know it's only July) given the instate talent and the momentum of our program? I think you gotta say no, and that's really all I'm saying.

Georgia has killed in recruiting for years and they have not won a SEC championship in years. Why get your panties in a wad for no reason.

I love how all of our recruiting success is measured by who we get or lose in state as if the rest of the country somehow doesn't matter.
