Beck talks about the economy about to collapse, says you need to buy gold. On comes the goldline commercial -- sometimes with voice over by Beck himself.

They are a fraud. They prey on old people by telling them they need to buy overpriced gold coins because the government won't come and take those like they did bullion for one year in the 1930s.

Shameful.

You got that straight from Olberman didn't you? I was flipping channels and saw the tease for it.

So your prediction of violence hasn't come true so you move on to this?

Here's some Weiner facts - of course they are linked to Beck so you will dismiss them but it does appear that Weiner played fast and loose with the facts to try to find dirt on Beck - a tactic you should identify with.

Weiner Facts - Home - ?I defy Glenn Beck to dispute the premise of the report." -Weiner

One of my favorites from the site:

Weiner report: Goldline was fined by the State of Missouri.

Goldline reponse: Goldline was never fined. Goldline agreed to repurchase certain items from a customer. Goldline also agree to pay investigation costs and to contribute to an investor education fund. The total amount paid by Goldline to Missouri was less than the civil penalty imposed against Congressman Weiner for his Federal Election Commission violations.

WeinerFacts notes: Other than the previously discussed incorrect message board claims, this was the extent of the problems discussed in the Weiner report. Inaccurate information about one customer in Missouri, that Goldline rectified. The last part is worth repeating however: “The total amount paid by Goldline to Missouri was less than the civil penalty imposed against Congressman Weiner for his Federal Election Commission violations.”

I note that none of you is disputing that the timing of Beck's dire warnings about the impending economic collapse are often followed by him touting buying gold. Or seeds (my favorite).

I wonder what the investment gurus we have here have to say about this. I mean, if they 3e being honest about this vehicle for investing, not to mention that Beck has in many respects turned his program into an infomercial.

still looking for the "real consequences". Were they listed and I missed them or are they coming later?

So all of these years of Democrats talking down the economy when Bush was President is in no way comparable right? Or anyone else in government making a speech that then drives up or down the price of some commodity.

Speaking of preying on old people, what about all the crap from the Left about the GOP taking away your Medicare and Social Security? But surely LG you will just ignore that altogether right? I'd never expect you to apply your own standards and logic on the flipside of things.

I started thinking about this and I knew I had heard these commercials all over the place. Ten seconds on Google reveals that Randi Rhodes and Ed Schultz have been doing these ads as well.

Great thread LG!

LG will mysteriously disappear. But don't worry folks. He'll be back to fawn over O'Donnell and Palin again.

To go along with:

Socialized Healthcare

Bailouts

Stimulus

With more to come............ if we don't do something!

Oh wait, this is the all powerful, radio show host, Glenn Beck thread. Disregard the above. I thought we were talking about those that have a controlling factor over our everyday lives.

Feel free to continue.

Obama just spent $30bil more taxpayer funds on something that could easily have been taken care of by using the unspent stimulus money but that's not important. What is important is a talk show host making money by selling ads.

Who is hurting the US citizens more?

i hate to agree with LG, but these gold ads are shameful. they absolutely rip people when they buy the coins. huge profit margins. people would be far better off buying the gld if they want to buy gold. i get clients telling me they are buying these things because they want something to barter with if the world goes to hell. i tell them they should be buying guns if they think that is going to happen.

Definitely a bad investment . . . I was just pointing out how shameless it is to single out Beck.

Don't forget ammo. A gun is a high tech club without ammo. :) Water purifiers too.

Guns and ammo, perhaps store some dried goods. Oatmeal will be worth it's weight in gold if millions of people are roaming the apocalyptic radioactive wastes looking for food.

Which only illustrates how silly it is to think like that in the first place.
