I was watching a game a few weeks ago and they showed a football that you buy off the shelf

Then they showed the same football that had been treated and ready for play..it was a lot darker in color. Anyone know how and what they treat them with.

I think I heard the back ups take them and rub mud and dirt on them to break them in. I am not sure this was serious or not but it makes sense

I thought they used sand paper to scuff them up some.
