US raises stakes on Iran by sending in ships and missiles | World news | The Guardian

Tension between the US and Iran heightened dramatically today with the disclosure that Barack Obama is deploying a missile shield to protect American allies in the Gulf from attack by Tehran.
The US is dispatching Patriot defensive missiles to four countries – Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait – and keeping two ships in the Gulf capable of shooting down Iranian missiles. Washington is also helping Saudi Arabia develop a force to protect its oil installations.
American officials said the move is aimed at deterring an attack by Iran and reassuring Gulf states fearful that Tehran might react to sanctions by striking at US allies in the region. Washington is also seeking to discourage Israel from a strike against Iran by demonstrating that the US is prepared to contain any threat.

Any chance this whole mess gets out of hand and we will have to be in Iran.

For the conspiracy theory people skull and bones types......... do you believe this was already pre planned and this is the true reason for going into Iraq?

The guy who happens to have issues with his Jewishness won't let things get out of hand. He's almost lost control just on an election and won't risk everything on something stupid...in theory.

I thought the apology tour was going to result in a new wave of cooperation from Russia and China leading to tough new sanctions?

If something does happen militarily - will Barry have to return the Nobel?

Good point. Wasn't direct high level diplomacy supposed to change that? Bush would only go through low level channels but the Great One promised direct higher level talks. Let's see. Further nuclear development. Joint efforts with Russia and China. Massacring untold numbers who lay in the street begging for the great Obama to help them. And now we're sending force to the region.

Cowboy diplomacy was evil...or so we were told.

I guess this is what I was going for. Do you actually believe it will be as large as the cold war.

I mean proxy wars and all?

If we go to war, please let us go full bore and not hold anything back. I'd rather take more casualties up front and win decisively, than drag it out into a stalemate.

Do you think Russia will align with the U.S. or prepare to pick the bones of the loser?

Soviets will be involved. The bi polar world ain't coming again with the US in the big 2. Big 3 is most likely with Sino Soviet relations forever displaying a healthy mistrust between the two.

Yeah, there is that common border and the Russians won't antagonize the Chinese too much with a fear of 10 million Chinamen headed north.

I don't like the Chinese scramble for commodities....too much like Japan in the 30s.

I also don't like China insinuating themselves into Venezuela.

....and being in a chess match, I really don't like who is playing our pieces right now.

No China going into Russia for their natural resources?

No old russian man shooting the lead tank commander????

I guess Tom Clancy can't get every thing right.

Don't forget India and who their buddy was during the cold war.
