I thought this was a good idea that another poster had (can't remember exactly who). We should make a list of goals and/or expectations for this team and see how it plays out. Here is what I'm hoping for:

1. Beat Chaminade. No reason to not expect a W.

2. Play to our potential against Pitt. Not to discount Pitt's talent, but they've revealed their vulnerabilities. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a competitive game.

3. Beat the mid-majors. Again, based off of what we've seen so far, we should be able to beat Oakland and everyone else in that 6-game stretch after Pitt.

These are my expectations. Feel free to elaborate or add anything else that's on your mind in any other facet of our team.

GO VOLS!!

Interesting.....BTW I think to this point there is no reason to not give props to Mike Hammy-boy on this head coaching hire....the man has turned these kids into straight up warriors!

I must say, I'm not a basketball expert, but I'm pleasantly surprised this team plays the way they do. Based on what everyone was saying before the season, I thought this was going to be a really rough year, but it looks like it may not be so bad. I'm enjoying watching them play.

I said before the season that we had the talent to win 20 games. If CCM can get control
of some prima donnas on this team and teach them to finish we may have a heck of a year.

A few 3 pointers and would have beaten Duke. One more three pointer and we would have beaten Memphis. Golden was flat today. I think he was 3 for 19. If he made one of his shots today, we likely would have won. If Maymon had made a few of his lay ups against Duke, then we would have won.
My point is, I can see the promised land from here. The difference in us winning and losing is by the slimmest of margins, so they are definately being coached well. Our coaching is making up for lack of talent and experience.
If we get on a winning streak, then that would be a good thing. We need to win all of the winnable games and sneak in a few of the games that we are not favored in. That should get us in the NCAA in March.

This team might be able to extend the streak of making the NCAAs.
We can gobble up a lot of wins in SEC play. We need to avoid bad losses. If we beat all of the mid-majors, then the overall record and schedule strength may be enough.

We'll have several more chances for marquee wins before SEC play. Should be fun to watch.

Not sure you were wanting realistic results schedule wise but here's what I got:

8-2 with the rest of the non conference schedule. We lose at Memphis, and to either Pitt or Uconn at home. Pitt is very beat able at the moment.

1-5(maybe 2-4) against KY,Candy, and FL. I think we might win 2 of those at home and lose all 3 on the road.

4-0 against USCe and GA. They are awful

4-2 against the west. Lose at miss st and bama.

That puts us at 19-9. From what I have seen from us so far and our opponents that seems realistic to me.

I'm no basketball expert by any means but do you folks think that 17 regular season wins and an SEC tournament run (losing in the finals) would guarantee us an NCAA berth?

17 would be tough to get in with. Looking at the schedule that would mean only 1 or 2 big signature wins. I think it will take more than that. Tourney runs seem to be minimized lately in the committee's thinking.

I said before the season that this team would win 18 games, possibly 20 with an upset here or there. I still stand by this expectation.

We will not make the NCAA tournament this year unless Jordan McRae and Kenny Hall step up. I do expect to make the tournament next year and finish in the top third of the SEC (including A&M/Missouri). I think this program could be back in a major way next year and I really like what I am seeing from Cuonzo both on and off the court.

We have SERIOUS issues at point guard and don't have a reliable second scoring option outside of Maymon. If Trae could get more time at the 2 guard, then Trae would be that second scoring option. I really think McRae needs to see more time at the point guard position, he really seems to handle the ball well and takes a ton of pressure off Golden. Trae Golden is really, really going to struggle running the point guard spot especially against more disciplined and sound defensive teams (unlike Memphis). Trae cannot handle the ball very well in a half court offense. Jordan McRae HAS to step up if this team has any shot of making the tournament. He has the ability to do so, the question is can Cuonzo help him do it.

Serious issues at PG?? Kid plays 2 great games, 1 average game, and 1 bad game and we have serious issues there? This is an gross overreaction to a bad game. Golden is going to be a great player for us for the next 3 years unless the NBA comes calling. Remember those NBA post a few days ago? Now he is a serious problem. Come on!!!!!!
