As I was looking down the Rivals top 100, it appears UT has a realistic chance with nearly 15 guys. Could anybody clarify if we are OUT of the race for any of these guys?

2. Marvin Austin
4. Eric Berry
7. Carlos Dunlap --- ???
10. Joe McKnight --- ???
11. Noel Devine --- ???
20. Dwight Jones
22. Chris Donald
23. Terrance Toliver --- ???
37. Ben Martin
39. Lennon Creer
54. Kristofer O'Dowd
69. John Clay --- ???
74. Matt Romine --- ???
87. Morgan Burnett

Romine, Clay, Toliver, Devine, and McKnight i'm all pretty sure we're not in the running or we're not really pursuing and O'dowd, someone correct me if i'm wrong seems like he's down to USC and UCLA.

2. Marvin Austin --- around 40%
4. Eric Berry --- leader, great chance
7. Carlos Dunlap --- around 30%
10. Joe McKnight --- OUT
11. Noel Devine --- OUT
20. Dwight Jones --- around 20%
22. Chris Donald --- 99%
23. Terrance Toliver --- OUT
37. Ben Martin --- 50/50 between us and OSU
39. Lennon Creer --- I believe we are his leader
54. Kristofer O'Dowd --- We are in his final 4, average shot
69. John Clay --- Dont hear much on him, so probably OUT
74. Matt Romine --- OUT
87. Morgan Burnett --- 33/33/33 between UGA, GT, UT (we hope he follows Berry)

My educated guess is that our class finishes out like this (29 verbals, we will have to work magic with #'s):

Chris Donald
Eric Berry
Ben Martin
Lennon Creer
Morgan Burnett
Rolando Melancon (4-star, outside Top 100)

Commitments I think UT possibly adds before or on National Signing Day:

Chris Donald
Eric Berry
Rolando Melancon
Carlos Dunlap
Cris Hill
Morgan Burnett
Miguel Chavis
Lennon Creer
Dwight Jones*
Harrison Smith*
Ben Martin*

*Not very likely, but possible

hi... i am new to the UT boards.... grew up in Oak Ridge, but now i live in Florida.

here's my question: Donald is down to UT and ND... ND is paper-thin at the LB position (they started Travis Thomas, who played RB for them the year before), but UT is completely STACKED at LB. Donald seems to be somewhat torn between the two programs, and both sides seem to think they have him. So, what would be the selling point to attend UT?

our reputation of putting Defensive players in the NFL and hes been a UT fan all his life.

The competition isnt going to matter at UT because his talent is such that he will start, period. He has been a huge Vol fan his whole life and it's close enough that his family can see him play in person. I would say that those are two pretty strong selling points. Oh, and ND women look like men.

lol.

i can see how your arguments would be very convincing to Donald, but UT is going against a hype machine with a coach that actually has a lot of roots and connections in the NFL, so I figure that they are selling the same thing too.... except with the possibility of him coming in and starting from the beginning. I think the most helpful selling point is that he has been a vol fan his entire life.

Edit: I am a bit worried that Fulmer already has 5 other LB commits. He stocked up for a reason... maybe b/c he was worried about getting Donald? I don't know... maybe I am reading too much into the whole ordeal, but the situation is kind of shaky.

i also try to look at things realistically, and all of the comments about harrison smith being forced away from UT strike me as unfair. i think that if he were truly 100% Vol, he would go to UT. I honestly think that a part of him wants to go to ND and plug into their horrid pass defense so that he can press for a starting job immediately. That's just me... but, I still don't think that we can blame Mr. Smith for Harrison's decision if, indeed, he does attend ND

There is never a legitimate reason for blaming a kid for making his own choice.
