ESPN.com - MLB - Selig's '05 earning power pegged at $14.5 million

Selig received $14.5 million in the 12 months ending Oct. 31, 2005, according to Major League Baseball's tax return, which was obtained by the Sports Business Journal.

The man who single handedly brought down baseball is making over 10 million a year.

He has to be the greatest used car salesman ever!

He has presided over unparalled growth in the game. If our current president had done half the job Selig has, we would all be much happier.

Our current President did not move the Brewers to a perceived weaker division so they could compete for a division title.

How did this thread arrive the W's presidency?

Who in the world likes Trader Bud other than the owners?
I didn't say I liked him. However, the fact is that his tenure as commisssioner has been a smashing financial success.

Unfortunately for Selig, he had to deal with Bonds, and a tied all star game in the 13th.

Isn't the stock market booming? By your assesment of good tenure (being a financial success) then W would be a good president.

I really don't think comparing the Presidency of the United States and presiding over a game is fair to W.

I thought trader Bud said only two teams we operating within budget?

There is no way I can argue against the financial success of baseball, the owners love trader Bud, but he turned baseball into my second favorite sport.

I greatly dislike the man!:salute:

Your concept of fairness isn't one of my major concerns in life.

Well thats great. How about you definition of good? The question you avoided.

You say Bud Selig is a sucess because the baseball financials are booming. There is a big sterioids brew ha that will stick to his legacy as a commish.

on the other hand....

G.W. Bush, is in charge while the stock market and financials are very good. Yet Iraq will stick to him.

All I'm saying is..............If you are going to compare them compare them with consistant terms. Don't pick and choose where you are going to compare them.

Growth in the stock market under Bush is nowhere near as great as growth in the stock market under Clinton. Baseball's growth under Selig dwarfs the game's growth under Fay Vincent.

The first and most important job of a President is that of Commander In Chief. The Commissioner's primary job is to oversee the financial health of the game. Bush has failed on an epic scale at his major task. Selig has been overwhelmingly successful.

Also, anyone who thinks steroids first came into baseball during Selig's time as commissioner is so removed from reality that it's almost humorous.

Hat, how do you feel about the long term financial success of the MLB from this moment forward?
The game continues to grow every year. People have been predicting this demographic gloom and doom about baseball not having enough young fans for the better part of two decades now. The attendance and merchandising numbers don't back up the sky is falling crowd's assertions. With the influx of Japanese players, MLB is going to be able to tap a new revenue stream in an affluent market. There is absolutely no reason to expect any fall off in baseball's prosperity.

You never defined that. Now I understand what your saying.

Anyway, Fay Vincent was a commish for what 3 years. Things can get done in that time but nothing great. Didn't Selig pull a Ceasar on Vincent, in being vocal against him?
