It is recruiting. 2006 to 2009. Way too many misses.

In those 4 years. Chism, Maze, Hopson, and Tatum have been good contributers.

Every other recruit has been at least a dissappointment, alot a complete bust. Crews, Johnson, Ramar Smith, Tabb,
Williams, Jurick, West Woolridge, Hall, and Goins.

We have been helped by transfers. JP, Tyler, and maybe Maymon.

Compare our recruiting misses to Vandy and you will find that we have had alot more misses than Vandy.

They're definitely missing some of those guys, like Wayne for sure. It's not the only reason though. They played well early and now seem to have reverted to play ground basketball.

I guess the Pearl thing is a convenient excuse for sucking.

i think if ut was 16-0 right now the ncaa would really stick it to us ... is it possible that we made ourselves irrelevent so then ncaa would go a little easier on us? sorta like losing the battle but winning the war kinda thing?

The reason this team is STRUGGLING and not bad is that the two point guards that were recruited and verbally committed are not on this team! Bruce knew exactly what he needed for this year's team to be awesome and Josh Selby and Aaron Craft were exactly what we need and still need. This team has very good players that need a facilitator! You need a floor general and distributor (Craft), which Bruce knew before Ohio State. You also need a guy who can shoot the three and penetrate to draw help, and also have the ability to finish (Selby), which Bruce was on before he even got ranked in the Top 10.

God bless Melvin Goins! I think he may be a little injured right now and won't complain in the media about it, but he's much more defensive stopper than facilitator. I don't even know how many assists he had in the Florida game, but it can't be much. BP knew he needed guys like that and he's still trying to get Tobias comfortable with that role, but Tobias is hamstrung by the poor/inconsistent outside shooting around him and the absolute lack of mid range shooting from our bigs. Nobody has even seen how good Tobias can be, because his teammates aren't helping reach that potential.

I think this team can definitely make a run later in the year and it's probably going to come when Maymon gets a much better understanding of his defensive responsibilities and if Jordan McCrae can mature as well. Those two players can provide the shooting that we need, but they are liabilities on defense right now. The other X factor is if Trae Golden steps up and takes control when he's on the floor. He's playing too timid right now. I hate to say it, but if Goins is hurt he needs to sit and we'd probably be better off letting Golden expand his lungs and get loose out there!

No matter how this season plays out, nobody should overreact! We have Golden back next year and he'll be a lot better and a little dynamo called Chris Jones that are really going to push BP back towards pressing and running again. Chris, Trae, and Tobias will be the igniters and probably the leading scorers and Kenny Hall (if he can stay out of foul trouble) and Maymon will be the perfect compliments.

The issue is with Pearl not the team. I don't think it's going to matter in the end. I also think the punishment should be more directed at him instead of Tennessee. Rarely happens though, they nail the university every time. It's really not right in my opinion.

Hall played some good minutes last year.... and I think Williams was a project from day 1... The dude had football offers from Ohio State and choose to play bball

Good stuff, but I fear that the entire season may end after a loss in the semis of the SEC tourney. I'm concerned we'll finish the SEC 7-9 and out of the tourney altogether. 7 more losses and we're done. Sub-500 keeps SEC teams out of the NCAA traditionally, right? Maybe those early quality wins will matter, but the committee usually weights late games more.
Maybe Bruce can rally a talented team to finally win an SEC Tourney, and end my suspense.

PG issue continues to be our biggest problem and post presence thereafter. Pearl has really had neither since arriving. Our half court game on both ends will attest.

It is not just our PG- its our 1/2 court offense--> our motion and screens are horrible. We seem to tire out and run 1/2 butt 1/2 court offensive sets. Notice the screens (and screens, and screens (on but mostly off ball)) that Florida set the other night. Everyone was in motion most of the time it seems. In contrast, we would get the ball and pass it among the top three outside the key, notice the shot clock and throw up trash, while almost everyone would just stand around. It became so predictable Florida starting getting easy steals late. We just don't have the stars to turn that laziness into effective improv/ dribble drive offensive sets where Hop takes on 3 defenders and scores on a consistent basis.

Say what you want about CBP, our defensive intensity, and our under/over rated hustling bench, but our 1/2 court offense continues to be our biggest achilles heel. Either the kids don't know what to do OR the coaching up has not been what it needs to be. Same as it has been since Dane left (or so it seems), kids get overconfident and stop working on the offensive end when the ball is not in their hands.

Are you serious? With his great athletic ability, speed, and natural aggressiveness, he would have been a beast in football!

I agree completely. Our half-court offense is atrocious.

Everything your saying is true, but we became a dominant program because of DEFENSE. We became a threat to teams with CLofton's outside shooting. Our half court offense has been consistently inconsistent since day 1. Watch the film.

The pressure defense, wether it has been full court or half, has been the key to be able to beat any team in the NCAA. Chism and Prince and Maze all contributed big time to such a dominate Defense. This year we simply don't have full intensity from all five players on the court at all times...and it costs us.

Williams and Goins were not highly-regarded prospects when they came in. Far from it. So, I don't see how they can be seen as "disappointing" or "busts," considering some of the other names on the OP's list. And, it's way too early to judge Hall's career. He is a sophomore and is playing behind two senior centers.

Agreed... I actually think that Goins is (in general) a bright spot on the team
