... or at least they won the game last night. I think even a Con troll could see the impact that the offensive rebounds and second chances had on the score. Con's guards were just chucking stuff up (and made me think many times of the nasty attacks on Meighan Simmons as being such a "bad player" - what about their own guards?). It was the second chance shooting of the bigs that won the game for them. Sure looked like the aspect of Tennessee offense the Con fans scorn so much.

Free throws wins championships. Think of all of the NBA, NCAA mens & NCAA womens teams that lost championships due to free throws. Conference championship games, N.I.T. championship games, & NCAA championship games.

Free Throws:

In the 1st A & M loss 57 - 56 we made 7 of 12 free throws. With a score of 57 - 56, two more free throws and we win.

In the Vandy game 64 - 60 We made 7 of 11 free throws. Had we made 5 more free throws, we win.

In the 2nd A & M game, we lost 68 - 65. We shot 12 of 20 free throws. Had we made 4 more, we win the game.

In the Michigan game, we lost 73 - 71. We shot 8 of 14 free throws. Had we made 3 more free throws, we win.

Certainly making free throws are very important and so it rebounding. I remember in one championship game versus UConn we outrebounded them by about 10. We missed about 12 free throws in that game lost by five. It was a game if we could have made free throws we would have won. We outplayed them and lost because we could not execute a free throw. Missing them comes back to haunt you everytime you lose a close game.

Did you even watch the game? UConn had 25 assists! On 34 baskets. Did Tennessee have 25 assists total for the tournament? Not disputing rebounding was a big factor but TEAMWORK won the game, and that is the aspect sorely lacking with Tennessee and yes Simmons was the biggest culprit.

It's not on Simmons that no one except Ariel can pass the ball and no one except Izzy has good hands to catch passes. Tennessee has never been good at getting players in good position to score. They had a premier 3 pt shooter in Bjorklund and pretty much wasted her because they wouldn't run plays to free her up...even simple ball screens. Look at what ND does when Mabrey is on the court. Tennessee should have been running plays like that to death for Angie.

UConn has always passed the ball exceptionally well. It's a bad sign when their center is a better playmaker than any UT guard not named Ariel.

And that's coaching.

And that's not just Hooly, because Pat had the same problem. Geno and Muffett do a great job of getting their players in the right position for easy, open looks. Tennessee needs to send some scouts to their games and find out the secret.

Darth_Vol, I was at the Final Four & sat through all three (lousy) games, so yes, I watched the game. Con does indeed have precise passing, they did get those assists on made baskets, they do move without the ball. But then, so does Notre Dame. Con did not shoot a perfect game. Their guards had plenty of misses, as did Stewart when she shot away from the basket (tho she made some 3's). ND's guards' shooting kept them in the game for a half. But when there were misses, and there were plenty, it was Con that got the rebounds. When ND's shots weren't falling, they were one-and-done. Con controlled the rebounds, so they controlled the game. With that on top of their offense, they buried ND. Had ND been able to rebound over Con's bigs, they would have kept the game close.

The OP was meant for Convoluted who thinks rebounds are unimportant -- you should simply shoot 100%, and then you don't need the put-backs.
