is there any free information on how to rebuild a, mmmm around a 40 year old or more office chair ? it is a kick ass chair and is about shot,it needs a total overhaul,it swivels and leans back,it is in need of some serious upholstery work

bless it's old heart,i have to J&B weld the wheels on it,but it is a killer chair, probably needs to go in the scrap heep, but it would look great in some orange come to think of it and the foam has to be replaced lol

some ideas on what is needed and what i need to do,would be appreciated

Find a way, just don't throw it out. The coolest furniture that I have is old stuff I got off the curb and reworked. But I don't do upholstery.

lol i know,i have ripped a bunch on it in almost 15 years and it was old before i got it,I do need some directions on what to buy and how to cut it,to refurbished it,it will rub your elbows raw from the wood on the arms, instead of being cushioned,I do think it would look good covered in Orange Naugahyde, uuuh how many Naugas will i have to shoot ? and where do you find the Orange ones at ?

post a pic, and it will help us with recommendations

I've been re paining a TV stand, and it's a pain in the ass

I've put two coats of Kilz, on it and the first coat of paint.
I'm going to sand it with fine sandpaper tomorrow and do another coat of paint, and hope that works...If not I'll sand it again, and go with a 3rd coat.

If that doesn't work, then I'm trashing it and buying a new one

Mule, forget the methane memories and junk that thing. Get a new 'un.

beat me to it...
but if you want to keep it, just strip it down, and an upholstery store can redo it in any color you want..

May want to paint it white, and do the Orange Upholstery

the best upholstery service I've ever seen was at the disciplinary barrcks at fort leavenworth. so join the army, commit a crime, get court marshalled and they'll train you do fix it up right.

That is actually a good hint. My wife is a nurse at various prisons and one of them does furniture refurbishing at a good price, so there may be something similar in your area.

But if this was my chair ...

I would flip the worn arms so the unworn part is now forward then I would cover the worn part with BLACK duct tape, then just buy a good cushion for the seat. Voila!

Tape a $1.00 bill to the bottom of the chair so you can say its worth something.

Not many people are going to agree with this. But staining the wood a really dark Walnut color and then using some deer skin complete with fur to cover it.

:)

thanks for the link, that is what is needed, and i like the idea of painting it white and no,the stains won't come off of it,they have been there for god knows how long

a friends wife said she would sew up the cover for it,if her sewing machine will handle it

what i need is some directions on what kind of foam padding to use and how to cut it to fit and where to get it

as you can tell,i really like the poor old chair , it has been a good chair for years,it fits my big ass really good and just needs to be redone :)

and i would hate to find out a price on a replacement, that is as good as it use to be lol
