Receiving Corp

Croom looked good today.

First pass to him could have made it competitive for awhile. Worley threw a perfect pass. Croom gave it the ol' alligator arms.

I like the kid... and no... them playing like YOUNG receivers right now does not doom them to being recruited over. But they need to keep improving and stop making some of the same mistakes.

Disagree. Croom had Imo his best game as a vol and North is a total freak. Even Blanc had a big reception. The only guy who looked terrible was josh Smith. Johnson had one drop but also a nice catch. Downs had the one play where he fell down also. But the just weren't out on the field much it seemed like.

Croom short armed one early. There was an early drop or two. Blanc quit on a short route on 3rd and short.

On several occasions, the WR's failed to either come back to the ball or use their bodies to shield defenders... both QB's lost completions because of that.

All that said... they're young and just played the #1 team in the country away. They just played against a Saban coached secondary. They did some good things. They'll have some good film to improve from... they just weren't ready for that challenge.

They will not face a D even close to as good as Bama for the remainder of the year.

i think it is a combination of things
a definite lack of experience by the receivers and the QB
our QB isn't good at doing his reads and checking down
the O line wasn't keeping the pressure off of the QB
to many dropped passes
poor route running
they should be targeting each receiver more,as in spreading the ball around more and going back to each receiver more often
of course they are improving with each game
and the coaches are still learning what to do,since they are in the SEC now,the play calling needs to improve
but since Dobbs redshirt has been blown, there will be more competition as to who the starter will be
it will be interesting to see how they develop the rest of the year

I knew we would be dealing with a real drop off from last year, but other than North, we literally have ZERO other down filed options. Pig is great, but is really more of a space specialty player. All the others rarely get open and then drop the damn ball when they do. Croom has been a huge disappointment.

What's up with Paul Harris & Ryan Jenkins? Why are they not seeing the field?

Croom has made some very important receptions this year and especially yesterday. He is also the best blocking receiver on the team and we don't win if the WRs don't block. I wish some of our posters would learn more about football before they post.
