Here are some thoughts and stuff about prospects whose interest in THE BIG ORANGE seems to be on the rise per Brent Hubbs and other insiders:

LOGAN HEASTIE:Logan Heastie - Football Recruiting
Heastie is being recruited hard by Coach Scott and seems very satisfied w/ they're relationship. He says they talk a lot and that Scott is a "straight talker" which impresses him. As for his impressions of the school Heastie came to our spring game last year and marveled at both our style of play and the size of the stadium. Heastie has also made it known that he wants to committ this summer, so maybe with this strong relationship starting early we have more of a chance than many originally thought:thumbsup:

MORGAN MOSES:Morgan Moses Profile - Football Recruiting
This kid is a 6'7 335 pound o tackle out of Virginia. The scouting report on this MASSIVE man is pretty good, they say he is agile, and very good on his footwork considering his size, and takes coaching very well. Moses is planning on being at Tennessee for our spring game, and is actually familiar with some of our staff. He met and really liked Clawson when he went to a camp at Richmond a few years ago. Coach Scott is recruiting Moses and they to have a good relationship. Other offers= Virginia, VA Tech, Georgia, Maryland, and West Va

Stephon Gilmore:
Four Star Athlete who prefers to play DB. Gilmore has been to Knoxville several times including the Georgia and SC games and on Junior Day 2008. He really likes our staff and got to spend a lot of one on one time with them on Junior Day. Where we may grab this kid though is thru his friendship with Hefney!!! He said they talk all the time and Hef is really hypin us up. Other visits are scheduled w/ S.Car. and Clemson

Tajh Boyd:http://tennessee.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=54476
Another star in town for Junior day 08. 6'1 195 lb Qb. Also another kid who is VERY impressed with how "straight forward" Coach Scott is and also came away with good impressions of Clawson and CPF. He has several ties to Vol Country including being friends with Brent Vinson and his PE teacher is a Vols season ticket holder. We were the first SEC school to offer and he digs lol. Says we're currently solid in his top three:) Other schools= Kentucky, Maryland, WV, and Oregon

Dallas Leehttp://tennessee.rivals.com/viewprospect.asp?Sport=1&pr_key=71443
6'4 290lb Off. Guard out of Georgia who we just offered and came up for Junior Day. He is a self proclaimed "high motor" player and from a look at some of his highlights he goes out and hits it hard every play. Says that coaching and education are his top priorities and those two things will be determining factors. Has offers from UT, Cent Fla., Vandy and says several SEC and ACC schools are in touch often

Johnie Farms:
6'3 285lb Offensive Lineman outta GA. Up for Junior Day and is getting a lot of love w/ about 20 offers. Loved the coaching staff ESPECIALLY CPF. He really wants to play for an good ol fashioned o lineman head coach to get solid advice and says Fulmer mirros what he is looking for. Scouting report says Farms is solid on blocking and could work some on his speed. He's gonna be a tough get considering he'll be in camps all summer with almost every SEC school

Hey guys, new on here...

Is it really possible for us to land Heastie and Marlon Brown in the same year?? These guys are immediate playmakers it appears, almost seems too good to be true... but I guess in early March there is a lot of that haha, hope we continue to use our newly acquired VA pipelines..

yeah, me too, but it's March. It's okay for us to be greedy!

IMO we need to be discussing what factor Fulmer's job security has on recruits. I will go ahead and admit that I am a Fulmer supporter, and I'm sure many people on here are aware of John Adam's recent article in the Knoxville News Sentinel. That does nothing but hurt our recruiting services in my opinion....

welcome to the board Paine. its great to hear Scotts name starting to pop up, and that he is leaving an impression on recruits.

Paine, I agree that the story hurts recruiting. Whether Phil created the problem with lax discipline or the sportswriters created it by making hay with the situation, only one of two things is going to solve the perception problem that the program now has. EITHER Phil starts winning BIG again immediately, and I'm talking SEC championship or BCS at-large like UGA last year, which would divert attention under the old adage about winning making everything right OR Phil needs to leave. From where I sit, I do not think Phil is going to get back to where he was a decade ago. If he could do it, he would've done it by now. Hence, the solution is quite obvious to me.

Looks like good work Mitzustu. I don't have a great feeling about Marlon Brown but Heastie would make up for losing him, if we do that is.

I saw Heastie at the UK game and he is every bit the 6'2 he is listed and looks much bigger than the listed 180lbs. If we could possibly land him and Brown both we would be in GOOOOD shape.

I disagree because when you look at the details you see a different picture.

CPF's decline coincided with having Sanders as OC. Since Sanders has been gone and Cut returned, UT has played O well enough to win the conference both years. Chavis' D's for the past two years have not held up their end of the bargain.

If Chavis can put it back together and Clawson can at least produce as well as Cut then there is no reason why UT cannot exceed where they were 10 years ago.

FWIW, CPF is doing a decent job at the things the HC should really be doing. He is still recruiting decently well. He's now gotten and is managing what appears to be a solid staff.... and as most of you seem to say is necessary, he looks to be otherwise getting out of the way.

What specific things do you think CPF is doing/not doing to prevent UT from getting back to championship level play? They were there offensively this past season even with their limitations and deficiency in "playmakers" when compared to past years.

Heastie looks like a player. We love to land either him or Marlon Walls..or both.

I also read that Tajh Boyd and Heastie would like to play together.

I'd like Boyd a lot. He reminds me of a more athletic Andre Woodson with more potential.

Here is my only problem with the way Fulmer has been perceived with his "lack of discipline." I realize that my perception is perhaps based on the fact that I am in college and can relate to more of these issues, but we aren't dealing with grand larceny, assault and battery (I don't think Parker got this, but may be wrong?!?!), or other issues that seem to be arising in other SEC schools. Instead, we are dealing with one common theme: alcohol.

It is hard for me to say that Fulmer is more lax about discipline than Spurrier, Saban, and Miles who seem to be dealing with these issues, many of which are actual felonies.

Does this not play a factor at all? Florida's safety gets caught breaking into a police compound to get his car (or was it just a towing company compound?) and yet his punishment was minimal.

This is why I so strongly disagreed with Adams article. Are we really prepared to start kicking teenagers off of our football team because of an alcohol charge? (I must say I am not including Britton Colquitt in this as it was his 5th or so offense).

Although we may view these kids as Gods, they are just kids. We must accept the fact that even Eric Berry, who's hype has already skyrocketed, has even messed up at some point. Do you think Adams, who seems to only obsess about Eric Berry, would advocate for Berry's dismissal on his proposed "one offense your done" policy if Berry had a beer or two at a Frat party?

I just think all of this publicity about the number of arrests, blah blah blah that has happened lately is taken out of context, and we need to look at them all on a case by case basis (in my opinion, the DUI's are much more serious than public intoxication or even possession of marijuana). And for that reason, I'm not ready to admit that Fulmer is more lax than the other SEC Coaches. And if he is, it is solely for the reason that he is in a lose-lose situation. If he kicks these players off, we may lose more games, which would lead to fans calling for his head. On the other end, if he doesn't kick them off, then fans complain about him not running a tight enough ship.

True enough. UT's offenses so far have been mainly marijuanna and alcohol.

UF, Bama, and USC have all had felonies recently.

I don't think UT's problems should be dismissed but they aren't of quite the same weight as some of the issues these other coaches are unfortunately facing.

FWIW, the only way a coach should be held accountable for this stuff is if they reinstitute the football dorm and give him a full time staff to monitor their behavior... plus more resources to prevent drug use.

yeah, it just makes me mad when Fulmer receives all this heat and I think it has a direct impact on our recruiting when, meanwhile, Meyer, Saban, and Miles seem to be dealing with the same if not worse stuff and yet none seem to have suffered from recruiting..

I'm not naive enough to think that this is the only reason for our rather odd recruiting season, but certainly don't think it helped/helps. I for one am pleased with how our team rallied last year and think the leadership was incredible. I am a loyal UT fan and just continue to go back to how we played in the SECG. That was hands down one of the hardest hitting games I have ever seen, and that (on top of our outback bowl game) has got me PUMPED for what the 2007 recruits are going to do..

Out of curiosity, anyone heard anything about Crompton? Kinda strange there hasn't been a news article or anything on him yet with spring practice starting in a little over a week...

I saw some general stuff about him and Coleman both looking good in 7 on 7 drills but nothing specific.

The recruiting class was small but had a star average as high as about 10 top 25 teams. The additions of Morley, Faison, and Warren didn't count but would have pushed them into the top 25 easily.

Considering that a couple of guys like Poole were probably underrated and these other factors... there was a dramatic overreaction by alot of fans because of the class ranking.

I agree. Morley is just an INCREDIBLE story in my opinion. We will see about Brandon Warren, is he definitely enrolled in classes? Will he be able to play this Fall b/c he sat out last Fall? As for Faison, we will see. Is he still listed as a DB/Safety? I have a feeling with Gaines back that our secondary may be too deep for a newcomer with two years left, unless of course we got a Gibril Wilson or someone on our hands. Our secondary looks incredibly deep though, esp. with Morley returning.

I wonder if there has been any thought of moving Rogan to offense. Surely he has some offensive experience from high school right?

I'm probably most curious to see how Gerald Williams will look when he arrives on campus. He fits a position that we are in DESPERATE need of, but hard to imagine that he will come into practice in SEC caliber shape after his decade long absence haha.
