Recommended books

Hello,
In my goverment and politics class we are now doing US politics (from england) and how it can be related back t othings such as the EU and even the british parliaments. Basiclaly as my head of year is a dick and has banned me from using school resources because me going back part-time "is a favour" can anyone recommend any good books to do with the foundations of american politics, whether it be how the senate was formed or even different peoples views on the differences between being a republican or democrat..pretty much anything to do with American Politics, would be a great help for me in my outside reading, any suggestions are helpful

At our founding, the main debate over governance was about centralized (national / Federalists) vs. decentralized (state / anti-federalists) power. A little googling on that will help, but the Federalist papers do a good job of laying out the view of the Federalists.
