I normally don't panic, but have to admit, due mostly to the evidence of our inability to extract motivation and dedication, and questionable coaching, skills that rarely materialized, etc. last year, now we are behind Ole Miss, Clemson, Pittsburgh, Arizona, Cal, not to mention 5 other SEC schools in most recruiting rankings. I have waited for that "late push" and it hasn't happened. Not one 5 star recruit! I normally don't put a whole lot of stock in the rankings, but we are usually in the top 10 so I normally don't have to worry that much. What really bothers me, and not just this year, but why can't we get our own guys to stay home? We supposedly don't have that much "in state" talent to begin with, do we not get on these guys soon enough or hard enough? If getting Cut back helped us pull some guys, what would have happened had he not returned? I like Fulmer, always have, and by no means calling for his head, but I am getting a little concerned. We have the talent, and the potential already in place, maybe things will turn around this year and all of the worry be in vain. Go Vols.

Again, I think waiting until actual signing day is best. Every self-titled expert has been shocked this year at the number of decommits and recommits. Once the deadline hits, THEN we can celebrate or hang at the gallows. There is still some decent talent on the boards.

And like so many have said, it doesn't matter what you get to walk on campus. If you cannot take that talent and skill and develop it, it doesn't matter what star they had. If morale sucks, if they have no focus or discipline, or they are not developed, you could sit on the number one class in the country and watch them all whither away.

I know your right Dizzy. I guess Im a little frustrated seeing UF, UGA, LSU, BAMA, UA, & Ole Miss kicking our tails. I'm trying to have faith in our Coaches and our System, kinda hard after last season.

Let's all remember what the #1 recruiting class in the nation got us last year. Maybe those guys will pan out but who knows. Recruiting is important but for the most part there are way more disappointing recruits than amazing ones. Signing day is just a hype fest for people who can't stand the NBA like me and can't wait for the end of August.

Maybe after all this hoopla of signing day goes away these threads will quit coming up.....when is anyone gonna learn......talent is just what it is and its just talent.....unless its harnessed, developed, and taught how to be a playmaker it will never be.....you can have all the talent in the world.....but that doesn't even compete with good old hardwork at your trade.

there is no late push this year and like hubbs said last night if vinson doesn't make the grades what does tennessee's class not have, any playmakers. i don't care what anybody says this is fulmer's worst recruiting effort.

I agree with what you say. The question from my perspective is this, If the coaches are not developing talented kids whay makes anyone think they can develop untalented/less talented kids? People seem to be trying to say that somehow these unheralded recruits are "hungrier" and therefore will be more disciplined. I'm just not buying it. A lot of the kids who have 4 and 5 stars next to their name have that ranking because they have been disciplined up to this point.

Normal pattern for UT Top 10 1 year 15-20 the next year. This years class was never going to be highly rated due to needs. OL and defense doesn't get you high ratings.

OL and defense gets you high rankings if they are all 4 and 5 star players. Have you looked at UF's recruits? 4 OL and 13 defense plus 5 ATH who will probably all wind up in the secondary. 21 out of 27.

Now look at UT. 10 defense and 4 OL plus 1 athlete who we better pray can play WR but I'll count him as potential secondary. 15 out of 23.

Looks to me like both schools are about 2/3 defense and OL. Wonder why they are ranked #1????

Tim Tebow QB #1
Chevon Walker RB #5
Riley Cooper ATH (WR) #10
Percy Harvin WR #1
Justin Williams WR #15
Jamar Hornsby ATH (WR) #13
Brandon James ATH (RB)
Jarred Fayson ATH (QB) #5

I am amazed at how unknowledgable UT fans are about recruiting!
