Recruiting and Success on the field

Nothing we did not already know. Underachieving players and coaches. Glad to see a matrix on it as confirmation though.

I think this is what is making the reactions so emotional, including mine. A decade of underachieving takes it toll. "Wait until next year" in perpetuity wears folks down.

It's amazing how bad we are yet we have recruited very well past 2 years. Shocks me completely

Why would it shock anyone? Tennessee has a very powerful brand. Even Dooley was getting solid recruits when he actually tried earlier in his tenure.

As the newness wears off it will be more important to win to have continued success recruiting. Doubt starts creeping into fan's minds after a while and recruits are no different. Next year is crucial to show significant improvement or recruiting could take a hit. You can bet other coaches will start using that Butch is on the hot seat soon if we continue to lose.

I enjoy things like this, but as always, it doesn't tell the whole story. Rankings don't matter if you don't meet your needs. You can have a top 20 class and not take a single offensive linemen. Rankings don't consider positions. When you don't take OL, 3 years later you have a problem. This recruiting class is important to hold together because Butch will have greatly improved the overall talent at every position in 2 years.

Just a reminder: OVER 1/2 of our team are either TRUE FRESHMEN or REDSHIRT FRESHMEN. Don't expect an overnight fix. Butch hasn't even been here two years yet and he has greatly improved the overall talent at every position.

No doubt very good young talent. Now it's time to coach em up. That's what people are waiting to see. Even though they are young, performances like yesterday don't instill much confidence.

Take your voice of logical reasoning out of here. Doesn't matter how young our team is, we should be national champions.

I think the concern is that if you can't beat Florida when it's on a platter then what will happen when they're good again? Candy and Georgia last year, Georgia and Florida already this year. They're going to need to win games that matter in he 4th quarter or people will lose faith that they ever will regardless of talent.

Success on the field isn't anywhere near where it should be. Butch better hope the kids he has are solid.

Most of us thought this would be a 6-6 season if we looked at it logically. The problem is that now the Mizzou and Ky games come in as must-win. These 2 teams may both be favored over us and we could very well be a 5-7 or 4-8 season. Even with our youth, will the base accept a 5-7 team? The honeymoon is definitely over for Butch. Bottom line is that you still gotta win, regardless of recruiting class. I still have hope for 6-6 and a bowl myself. I expect wins over Chatt, Mizzou, Ky, and Vandy but they are not "for sure" wins now.

Next year with our schedule we will be in the same situation again, especially with a new QB.

For once I'd like to see an article about recruiting rankings and how they relate to on the field success but one that ACTUALLY FACTORS IN ATTRITION. Also I would appreciate it if that writer decided to measure the recruiting ranking at the 2-deep as well as the current roster levels as this would better illustrate and measure the recruiting success vs on the field success debate.

Thank you.
