I need a little help from you recruiting guru's... I know it's pretty tense and strained around here with NSD being so close so I thought maybe this would help lighten the mood a little.

I'm obviously a devout UT fan and I've been going back and forth with a friend for a few months about whether our Vols would pull off a higher ranked (per rivals) class than his Oklahoma Sooners.

After the "X" incident, he thought he had me beat. Since then he's been wanting me to put my money where my mouth was; Actually my dignity to be more accurate. If I agree to the bet, and OU finishes ranked higher, I'll be wearing skimpy little red OU shorts that I have made fun of him for owning for months since I found them in his drawer to school. Needless to say, I'd like to be comfortable with my chances before I agree.

I wouldn't have even considered accepting the bet initially, but Dooley has done nothing but suprise me with his recruiting ability thus far. I personally believe he will land a class that will, in fact, rank higher than the class Stoops will in at OU. That being said, I accept the fact that I know nothing about recruting without hearing what you guys have to say so I thought it would be smart to check in with y'all first.

What do y'all think? Tennessee or Oklahoma with a higher ranked class?

Thanks :hi:

1) Didn't mention his side of the bet, so not sure of the pros and cons there.

2) Stay outta his drawers.

3) Depends on which recruiting site you are using for the ranking.

4) OU is leading us with 29 commits vs our 22. They are battling UT (the other one) for their recruits whereas we are battling pretty much everyone in the south for ours.

I would probably pass. We may overtake them, but it isn't looking that way...IMO.

But, I'm not a recruiting expert, either. So that is simply FWIW.

What does he do if you win? And depends on what people believe. I think with Rogers and Ambles its a definite. With only Rogers a maybe. No Rogers or Ambles, litte to no chance.

He would have to wear some pretty hideous Nike UT sweats and a very retro looking jacket that is just as bad haha.

And we would go by the Rivals rankings.

My reason for confidence was because I figured there class was about full and they missed on Jeffcoat today who would've put them over the top. Where as, we have a good shot with Stone, and a decent shot with Da'Rick. Then there are some sleepers like Ambles and Green that we atleast have a chance with when I don't think OU is in it for that many high caliber guys. Could be totally wrong on this though. Like I said, that's why I'm asking you guys.

Thanks though

If Rivals I would pass. I don't know how to do the math, but they will have at least 2 more recruits than us (29 now vs our limit of 27) and their total is significantly higher than ours now.

We could beat them , but everything would have to break our way. That might happen, but not not often. I say there's a 75% chance you lose.

But I'm a chicken when it comes to betting. Not to mention I look terrible in shorts. Also, I'm old enough not to confuse bravado with stupidity.

Im not a recruiting expert but I would not touch that bet. Rivals has Oklahoma with 29 recruits and they are rated avg 3.52, I think ours at this point is 22 and avg 2.48. On scout they are rated as 3rd right now with tennessee way down the line. I think we might land a few big names but mostly we will fill our class with good kids but not 4 and 5 stars to the so called experts. I also think that oklahoma will get 1 or 2 more big names and I hope its from someone USC is after. So stay away from bet. Try next year. We might just get ahead of them then.

I don't think it matters. We are in a rebuilding phase that has seemingly hit warp speed with CDD. The success of our program will be demonstrated on the field in the next couple of years. I don't give a S&#!... I will be a VOL forever.

Don't we max out at 27? If so OU will get 2 more players so you would be in the hole to start with.

I realize this but is it Rivals that takes more into acount of quality and not quantity? I know one of the services is like that, I just can't remember if its Rivals or Scout or ESPN.

If that is true, I don't think a 2 player difference would make much of a difference.

If you really don't want to wear the shorts than I would probably avoid the bet...

It will be close though... UT and okla will probably end up right beside each other in the rankings...

Rivals doesn't have Crump listed as a commit (not entirely sure if he is a commit) so that could hurt UT's ranking....

If UT gets Rogers and Stone than we could pass okla...

I think the enjoyment of seeing him in a UT outfit outweights the sting of wearing those shorts to me. That in no way, shape, or form means I want to wear those shorts though haha.

But I'm going to think this over a little bit more...

stop being a wuss. its for fun right. no money involved. take that bet and be gracious win or lose. actually if you win you should make him miserable. but just out of fun. take the bet. at least someone will get a laugh out of it.

That's my reasoning really. I'll probably take this regardless of what the majority opinion is on here. Like I said, seeing him in the UT stuff I have picked out would be great.
