different in their rankings.

i dont get it.

rivals has us 21 with 9 commits. and rivals gives walter fisher 5 stars as a juco standout.

scout has us 51 and with 6 commits and gives fisher only 1 star.

????????

what the hell? i dont understand how they are in two different boats here.

rivals

scout

heres the difference.....scout sucks badly. rivals actually does research. scout may have the AA game and CTSD, but they are far behind in player research. they are also very biased.

I think Scout has the bigger media presence but Rivals has more in depth info, videos, and a lot more info across the board. I peek at both but find Rivals better on scoops and facts.

Based on the quality of play from these so called guru's or recruiting, I say THEY DON"T KNOW THERE BUTT FROM A HOLE IN THE GROUND! :lolabove:

I personally like to read the bios, performance stats, stuff like that, and let Rivals AND Scout play their media game.

I don't put a whole lot of confidence in polls, rankings, etc. I wait and see who we get and then read the writeups, and make my judgments at that time!

the new grant article says that he had a good time with the coaches but hes still a uf commit. he said him and his brother talked some more but hes still a gator. he liked his visit with uf better because they showed him more than football. he said his visit with tennessee was all football and he said that he may just play for 2 more years so he needs a backup plan.

Recruiting is starting to look really, really bad.
Here is the top 10 classes to date:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/foot...ting/index.html

Here are the rankings;

1.Texas
2. Georgia
3. Florida
4. Notre Dame
5. Pittsburgh
6. LSU
7. FSU
8. UCLA
9. Auburn
10. Michigan

Four of our rivals are in the top ten: GA, FL, LSU, and Auburn.

Fulmer had got his work cut out for him trying to compete with these teams when they bring in these kind of classes.

I don't think this is all bad. Look at our recruiting class rankings for the last several years and then look to see what those rankiggs got us (the worst season in years).

Maybe we will just go out and get some guys that really want to be Vols. You know, slobberknockers, hard-nosed and clean-nosed boys. Please no more social reprobates and media creations. Lets get boys that want to strap it on and nock some jocks off. I rather have a dedicated 3 Star Player than any more juvenile delinquents with 5 or even 10 stars.

I agree with you KYVol - Besides - lets not jump on this too quick - a lot can happen between now and signing day.

Also keep in mind that no matter how good a kid is out of High School, if he's not commited to getting better, he'll fade fast in Division I College Football. We need kids that are coachable. It seems for the longest time we've been getting top notch recruits, but they never progress at the next level. I'm sure we could come up with a long list of guys who seemingly never progressed. Cedric Houston, Jabari Davis, Michael Munoz, Casey Clausen all looked promising as Freshman, but never seemed to progress any further during the next 3 years.

Tubberville and Richt dont have the problems developing top talent that Fulmer has. When they bring in these kind of classes they develop the players, the problem developing top talent seems to be unique to Fulmer.

The jury is still out on what Meyer and Miles can do with this kind of talent, but in the past Fulmer has had a lot of problems beating teams that have as much or more talent then his team has.

Rivals has much more in-depth recruiting analysis in football. Scout focuses most of its attention on basketball, and is far superior to Rivals in terms of basketball analysis.

scout as therickbol says is better at basketball. Their football people aremore Southeast region based

Since we only have 16 offers at the moment, do not expect a high ranking this year. We have a lot of need spots to fill.

In regard to ranking and rating prospects, those are systematically done by rivals using statistics, receptions, yards per reception, TDs and figure in physical stats such as vertical leap and 40 speed. One thing they all miss are the subjective factor which can be the most important (heart, coachability, determination, desire, etc.).

Would you prefer a 6'2" WR with a 42 vertical and 4.4 speed or a 6'0" WR with a 32" vertical and 4.5 speed? Oh, you'd like option A? You just chose Josh Edwards. Option B was Jerry Rice. So you've never heard of Josh Edwards? Hummmm......

What is interesting to me is the points system on Rivals. The teams where the average recruit is over 3.5 stars reads like a current whose who of college football greatness:

Texas
Florida
Florida State
LSU
Auburn
Miami
Ohio State

Then between 3.0 and 3.5 you have the usual also-rans, the teams I consider second tier right now (in terms of last couple of years and overall current status):

Notre Dame
Georgia
Alabama
Nebraska
Clemson
Pitt
Michigan
Oklahoma
Tennessee

ok....i'll bite. how in the hell do you have Florida as a "who's who" of college football greatness, when they finish behind USC in the East, and UGA in the Also rans, when the just won the conf??? I know your a gator, but c'mon, take off the blue and orange glasses....

just don't tell me "because we beat them". UGA has won two conf. titles since 02, and played for what? 3? i would consider UGA, Auburn and LSU as the who's who of the SEC right now, with UF, TN, USC, Bama as the chasers, regardless of the "stars" they got from rivals...
