It's just convenient it gets enforced for Bama. It's just convenient they only have ONE penalty all game. For Bama, it's always convenient.

We lost that game because we sh*t the bed in the second half. But the officiating in the beginning of the second half effectively brought Bama back into the game. The atrocious kickoff call and blatant missed holding on Pearce when they threw the TD saved Bama.

Just once I want to know what it feels like to be saved by Refs in a big game. Just ONCE

If they are going call it by the so called letter of the law rule etc. then do it in every play. Not just only against one team.

I don’t comment on officiating for the most part, but the 3&9 holding call when we stopped them, really put the nail in the coffin. That’s a big shift there alone
And I am fairly certain the ridiculous "holding" call on our DB when they threw incomplete on 3rd down changed that possession from an Alabama punt to turning into an Alabama TD.

I agree -- we need to take strategic risks. The 3rd quarter 4th down play extended the boundaries of common sense, though.
I listened to local radio here in West TN, and they have no affiliation to UT or being a fan. They both thought it was probably the correct call to go for it. It was 4th and 1, and there was thought that Bama’s offense had figured it out and gained momentum. Everyone has an opinion, but I don’t think it “extended the boundaries of common sense.”

Y’all I just can’t get past this searing anger over the blatant screw job the refs handed the team on Saturday. Nothing ever gets done about it and the league continues to shake us down for every freaking cent they can steal from us. The game is corrupt and we will keep taking it lube free.

I am saying the league has consistently protected its most likely playoff contenders and Alabama was just that on Saturday, but that there isn’t a conspiracy by the SEC to specifically keep Tennessee down like some have been alluding. Last year we had a chance to break through but we didn’t seize it.
Agreed.

Correct, which made the game 20-20 (I think) could’ve been 27

Not that it matters much but it turned into a FG and made the score 27-20 but Joseph’s had that sack so they actually only gained like 5 yards from the penalty. Would have been a 54 or 55 yarder instead of a 50 yard FG. But idk if Saban would have went for a 54 yard FG

I think they still settled for a FG to make it 20-17. Not sure if they were in FG range if the penalty had not been thrown.
They were up 24-20. Would have been a 53 yard FG.

We actually stopped them, and their kicker made a 50 yard FG. It’s still aggravating that it gets called when Castles and Squirrel were held just like it.

And then the next drive they get the scoop and score

That 4-5 yards matters a whole lot! That may have been in an uncomfortable spot for his leg where he feels he needs to get a little extra on it. That can lead to pulling it or blocking it. Saban may have punted. He may have gone for it, and we stop it to get the ball in good field position. One small penalty alone could have changed the complexion of the game, much less multiple uncalled penalties! And people wonder why we complain so much about the refs.

Thanks to those who discussed Band of Brothers last week. I watched it over the past couple days and really touched by what I saw. I wish more people would watch it to understand the sacrifice that was laid out for the liberties and freedoms we enjoy today.

I have seen other WWII movies, but curious on other shows that center around D Day and the march to Berlin. Thanks !
Have you seen the Pacific? Shows that side of the front where our Navy and brave Marines went up against a Japanese force that was even more fierce than the Germans.

Fans should be allowed to criticize the play of the players when the play is inexcusable (Hadden)
just as much as applauding or praising when their play is excellent (Hadden).

That's what fandom is all about, otherwise we would always cheer for the JG's, the Butch's,
and the Pruitt's of this world.
Just curious, do you know what the word "fan" means? Do you know what it means to be a "fan" of something or someone?

Baseball swagger-- fur coat, daddy hat, mike honcho, bat tosses, bat stickers, celebrations, poses and props-- caused much ado about nothing. Barnes, Harper and Weekly color inside the lines, though softball did briefly adopt the fur coat and mommy hat.
Ultimately though, that stuff attracts eyeballs (i.e., $$$). When you get down to it, isn't that what the SEC or any athletic conference is about?

I still don't get why you would despise Tennessee if you are the SEC though. We are one of the biggest brands, with the largest fanbases, and we make probably Top 3 money in the conference.
All true but it misses the big picture for both the SEC and Vegas. The SEC cares only about tv ratings and revenue. Vegas cares about betting volume. It is true that Tennessee a large and loyal fan base. We have been a national draw., but right now we are not. The last thing the SEC wants is a championship game between Tennessee and Ole Miss, they want Bama and Georgia.
As for Vegas, they are always going to make money by equalizing money on both sides and getting the juice. But there are games like UT Bama that are huge money games and they want to exploit it and make a killing. Notice the line Bama -8.5 high and O/U low, stayed there despite heavy volume on Tennessee and the over. Bama had to win a 2 score game or Vegas would have taken a bath. One less Bama touchdown, Tennessee covers and the game is under and they don't get the sucker bet money and pay out a ton. But SEC happy and Vegas happy. Follow the money.

Where's the data that shows there was a ton of money on Tennessee?

I wondered about that this morning. I wonder if the coaches weren't in love with the backup QB situation, and didn't want Joe to get hurt. But now they feel Nico is more comfortable and they trust him if they need to play him now.
It was also a make or break game. Beating Bama makes Georgia game huge and keep Atlanta hopes alive. Georgia game is not as big now in terms of post season.

So the plan was for us to dominate the first half, go into the half with a 20-7 lead and THEN the refs would kick in for Bama? That was the plan right?

The first half officiating was ridiculous too. The ball spots and letting the clock run at the end when we went out of bounds the last 2 minutes need explaining, not to mention the lack of holds and DPIs called on Bama. In no world does Bama get that kind of scrutiny of clear first down marks and I bet my last dollar that clock stops as well. It isn't more about what was called on us, it was about what WASN'T called on Bama.

The second half was more taking the gloves off. The long pass TD in the opening possession should have been called back for a blatant, and I would argue, dangerous hold on our DL. The fair catch at the 4 does not get called on Bama for sure (CJH said the official told him the signal came from our front line, which is absurd). It escalated from there and there was no way we were getting back into the game.

Did we lose the game in the second half? Absolutely. Were we given a fair shake with the flags to keep it closer or possibly pull out a win? Absolutely not. The flags and no-calls prevented any kind of fair game or comeback.

Bama had one penalty for 5 yards. One. I'll bet anything this will be an outlier to the Bama season and they will average out to their 9ish on the previous games for the rest of the season. They were one of the most penalized teams coming into Saturday and they all of a sudden became disciplined and clean? GTFO.

I don't know if there is some conspiracy, and I don't really care. I do think there is unconscious bias and wouldn't be surprised if betting is informing some of this.
