UT protected him from perjuring himself. Bowles was going to testify that Butch allowed and even initiated Curt Maggitt and Geraldo Orta putting a “hit” on his head the next time he showed up at the football complex. Butch called him a traitor at the team meeting.

UT did not want these things getting out so they settled before Butch was called to testify.

Didn’t Bowles testify to that? So much for “keeping it out.” They were allegations in connection with a rape case in which the defendants were eventually found not guilty. I don’t believe Butch was squeaky clean and I do believe some of the stories that came out about him...just not every single one. If there was a fired with cause offense in his list of transgressions, I’m sure they would have been used. He’s kind of a cruddy person and we fired him...move on.

The 25 commit limit was the best thing to happen to Bama.

Made it much harder to flip and build a roster. Had to do in small doses while losing guys every year.

Imagine if Pruitt could flip the roster in 2 years by signing 35 guys a class.

I've been reading VN for a decade, off and on, so I knew who everyone was. (It was disconcerting that everyone changed their avi my first or second day to change our luck!) But I have never posted or obtained a log-in before. I apologize that I have gotten a little overexcited a couple of times. I'm trying to chill out. I was worried about people turning on Pruitt before he could set things right. I think he is the guy we have been waiting for, and I am really excited to finally have a future to look forward to: tired of reminiscing . I think Pruitt is going to top Fulmer in championships and we are really going to become a power again. There are a lot of people here who know much more about recruiting than I do, so I am glad to learn from them.

Was just thinking about it, and makes me appreciate Pruitt’s approach.

You can’t load up with 35 guys in a class and flip the entire roster in two years, so Pruitt is focusing on flipping the most important positions on the field.

OL/DL recruiting is nuts right now, with strength on the rest of the defense, and of course the stud QB.

Skill positions fall into place if you’ve got a good OL/QB. We’re just filling those slots with speed now.

That’s exactly how you build a good SEC roster.

I’m not surprised posters find the title 9 stuff funny that is keeping butch away from this job but it really needs to be said that the job he did handling all that really kept the university away from a serious black eye scandal.

If you don’t think butch deserves any credit for anything good here the way he kept that entire situation from becoming much worse than it was is something he needs applause for.
