Hooker does nothing explosive. Zero touchdowns in 2 scrimmages and doesn't complete anything down field.

Why would he be qb 1? Ball security? Sure, but if your going 3 and out why not give someone that has upside qb1 and hope they work the turnovers out.

Your first statement is absolutely false therefore i didn’t read #2.

Huh, thought you were a defensive guy.
No idea what to expect from Hooker but HB is better than BM till he isn’t...
How is bailey better than Maurer? His highs are no where near the highs Maurer brought vs uga and bama as a freshman. He just did “less bad stuff”

I ve looked at this since the huge splits are working their way into the HS game. You almost force teams to roll to a thirds look or play a 3 high look like Iowa State that you don't see SEC teams really doing at this point.
Yea i mean that’s pretty much the whole basis for it... if you have a QB who is a legit running threat then it’s virtually impossible for the defense to have a box advantage even while playing single high. Furthering that, it’s best to run RPOs bc the spacing makes it easier to isolate a conflict defender. The passing concepts are basic and it’s a lot of presnap pick a side 2 read throws but there’s nothing wrong with that when you’re seeing a lot of man coverage by default 1618811371212.png

I like Maurer and all but Maurer did not finish a game and his numbers are not as good as HB
Health is his biggest issue. I think the dude has already had multiple knee surgeries and some kind of neck procedure. But if you take his best games (Georgia and bama before getting hurt) they are the best QB play we’ve had since dobbs. Athletically Maurer is our most talented QB in terms of traits but as we all know, that’s not even half the battle anymore.

he was 5/7 -62 yds no TDs against Bama his best game was UGA. He played 12 games 2 TDs 5 ints 45.7 pct 550 yds....HB 6 games 4TDs 2 ints 70.6 pct 578. I want the best QB to start and HB just from what I seen from both is better jmo. At least he is not erratic.

This is why you can’t go strictly by numbers.

I don’t think HB starts. 75% Hooker. 20% Maurer. 5% Bailey. Bailey really needs to redshirt and overhaul his mechanics
Hooker seems like Pruitt's kind of QB....

"I don't care if you score points, just NEVER, under any circumstances, turn the ball over..... Ever."

Jeremy Pruitt... probably

For the last 5 years, the bad stuff kills us. Maurer has done much more bad stuff in the years he has been here. This is also true with the last scrimmage.

Hooker ain’t gonna be the starter.

If it ain’t Bailey or Mauer, and I think Mauer is still at least a year away of refining before being a serious contender - then the starter isn’t on the roster yet.

Same vibe I get. Revert to holding the ball with more running if the #1 receiver is not open with the RPO's. Maybe more Dobbs than #2 was. Those type guys are easier to defend unless they can run like Lamar Jackson - who is a pass first QB as well. I've seen Hooker play for VT - he isn't Jackson or Dobbs for that matter.

There were very good reasons VT moved on from him. Doesn't mean he cannot improve under CJH, but the die may be cast as to what type of QB he is. If the Heup O scheme stays the same there has to be a balanced attack and quick reads/decisions by the QB followed by accurate passing. His QB's do not give up on plays unless they break down or coverage is tight. You can't have your QB getting gassed and beat up from a lot of running - his passing will get worse.

Great interview with Billy Williams on Sunday Night baseball talking about Hammerin' Hank. Dude sounds great for 82.

Even being a rival Reds fan during those years I had such great respect for Williams. Great player and classy guy. Many don't know that his wife is dying from late stage dementia, which hits home with many folks on here including my wife and I with my MIL. They've been married for 60+ years and he still provides daily care for her. Not sure, but she may still be alive even though she's been in the final stage for over a year.
