Even being a rival Reds fan during those years I had such great respect for Williams. Great player and classy guy. Many don't know that his wife is dying from late stage dementia, which hits home with many folks on here including my wife and I with my MIL. They've been married for 60+ years and he still provides daily care for her. Not sure, but she may still be alive even though she's been in the final stage for over a year.
Thanks for sharing that information. I was not aware. Even more respect for him now.

Health is his biggest issue. I think the dude has already had multiple knee surgeries and some kind of neck procedure. But if you take his best games (Georgia and bama before getting hurt) they are the best QB play we’ve had since dobbs. Athletically Maurer is our most talented QB in terms of traits but as we all know, that’s not even half the battle anymore.

JT Shrout's Florida or South Carolina game (in 2019) were better imo. Maurer still threw for just 50% and a pick against Georgia, and that pick was a huge momentum shifter.

Completion % is a flawed stat imo. Too many holes to punch in that both by WRs and what someone is asked to do. But i agree those games were good but i thought our team just felt different when he started those games.

UT has been talking to Milton for a while. He has experience, is mobile, can play right away and has three years of eligibility. He checks their boxes, and they must think he fits their profile better than anybody on the roster.

It could also play into them expecting at least one QB to leave and just wanting to keep a full QB room too.

I know this is coming through my rose colored glasses, but I detect something in that interview that I don’t think I’ve heard in a long, long time.
It sounded like there is genuine excitement and ENJOYMENT amongst the coaching staff - that they actually like and respect each other and seem to be a) on the same page, and b) having fun.

After years of filling out staffs with mercenaries who might or might not get along ... maybe we’ve finally got the right mix

Good grief

This program is on life support
If Milton is joining the team, it really makes you think about just how bad our qb recruiting has been. It's the most important position on the team and Pruitt left us with apparently very little at the position. Don't know much about Milton other than he's a Florida kid, but I'd wager Heupel knows him very, very well. What I don't get is why he wasn't here for all of spring ball? Seems like he'd really want/need that time with his new team. Odd.

Completion % (or lack there of) is what really did in JG last season especially. Maurer isn't durable enough or explosive enough running the ball for it to be overlooked like with Dobbs.

I feel like people like Maurer cause he's got moxy or swagger, and I like that about him too. If he was at UCF and Heupel was there he'd absolutely be starting for him.

But he's at UT and Hooker, Salter, Bailey and now Milton all are in the same room. As the other guys adjust to what this offense is and what the staff wants from them I think you see Maurer slide backwards on the depth chart. I expect he transfers out honestly, with the 1 time rule passing. I'm also worried that Bailey may do it as well.
