I'm not confident. I just don't think he's tossing out open-ended verbal offers, letting guys sit on them a month and thinking he has a done deal.

I hope you’re right, and you probably are. However, Pruitt has a lot more experience coaching defense than making high-profile hires. It is possible that this search got away from him a little in terms of waiting around on a guy for too long. (I am not even speculating that’s the case, but it’s possible.)

42 days seems like forever to us who are anxiously waiting in the dark for news, but it’s not that long of a time with the holidays, etc. It’s possible for a non-idiot to get strung along for a week or two by somebody, and that could possibly account for some of the time this has taken.

At the end of the day, though, it still doesn’t really matter. Just need to find a guy he’s confident in.

Last night solidified something for me. I’ll take great player developers/coaches who are good and sometimes great recruiters over great recruiters who are good coaches. I want continuity and longevity over big names. The revolving door of coordinators and lack of cohesiveness hurt Bama more than many will admit in my opinion.

lol that's hilarious

Flounder at a middling Big XII school? Sure, you're qualified to run an NFL team!
I get it. Guy is an offensive genius. He can't get much talent to Texas Tech but clearly he knows offense and QB's. You don't recruit in the NFL, you draft. He can get talent and if he hires a proven DC, it can work. Similar to what the Rams have done

I suggest Schiano...

Agreed.

Plus he's cheap as a first time NFL HC...for him if he fizzles he can be an OC in the NFL most likely.

I don’t think taking any wholesale opinion from last night’s game is the way to go.

Alabama is going to be right there again next year.

UT is willing to pay more than most OC prospects currently make. UT can paper a deal and execute the MOU within 24 hours. So the delay is decision-making. Not saying it's easy to find the right guy-- but hiring him isn't that hard.

...and regardless of what people think about personnel or if it's a "good" job, I find it hard to believe that there aren't guys lining up (and good ones at that) to take a $1.2 million job.

As a football fan, I am excited to see A&M battling them in the West with Jimbo there. Gus may also find a way to pull something off like he has before. Not sure I buy coach O & LSU yet, but recruits seem onboard.

I would just love for us to return to glory before Saban is gone, Pruitt putting it to him would be all worth the worst of the last decade+ here.

No, I think I’m allowed to have an opinion. Lol.

Seriously, I agree. Bama is too talented not too. But as we’re learning with our basketVols, elite coaching can often get downplayed when those teams go against others with supposedly more talented teams. Saban admitted that he got out-coached so my opinion has some fact to it as well. However to your point, there’s a very good chance we see this game again next year.

The truth is, Tua didn't play for most of the second half during this season. I guess SEC was weaker than we though, because Bama looked terrible last night.
