The route concepts they ran on the first drive were baffling. I hadn’t really seen them run those at all this year and it led to that pick 6 that set the tone for the rest of the nightI hated all the wildcat and i didn’t think they used Jacobs enough. I remember saying i think they will hurt Clemson from the a slot... they catch a 70 yard TD right up the hashes and never really go to it again lol.
He’s at UNC.Graham Harrell
Has been under Gundy and Leach.
Been the OC at North Texas since 2016. His offense this year averaged 35 PPG, 306 yards through the air, and 154 yards on the ground.
Yeah I'm throwing crap at the wall and hoping it sticks, but if JP is wanting the Big 12 style offense... I think he'd be easy to steal from North Texas.
He looked bad last night. Which comes back to my point. He hadn’t seen a defense schemed that well against him EVER. Not even Kirby did it. I think Tua will be fine but Bama’s pass game is a slant, deep post or scramble pass. They run to set up theory plays and for the life of me, I don’t understand why they went away from it.
It looked like Butch snuck the goal line plays into the hands of Locksley. No idea why they felt the need to run all the misdirection and trickery.
Last night solidified something for me. I’ll take great player developers/coaches who are good and sometimes great recruiters over great recruiters who are good coaches. I want continuity and longevity over big names. The revolving door of coordinators and lack of cohesiveness hurt Bama more than many will admit in my opinion.
Last night made guys like Mike Leach and Bill Snyder look even better as talent developers and coaches. If Snyder had ever gotten ahold of real talent it would've been insane. Venables is the absolute key to Clemson's success tho.
Random name, but I was reading the history of the Air Raid offense today, and one of the big standouts in the development of the system was Tony Franklin, who is currently OC at MTSU. He was on staff at Kentucky with Mumme and Leach, coming from high school to help develop the system. After getting fired from UK, he ended up teaching Rush Propst his offensive system, as well as selling his entire playbook and techniques to coaches all across the country. If we're getting desperate and looking to spread the field with a lot of passing, may be an interesting person to look at. Would be cheap. I can't speak to his recruiting prowess (or lack thereof).
