Hurts is better than JG. But, we only have him for one year. He would start here, but JG would transfer. That means in 2020 we have a freshman in Bailey and 2 other unproven QB's battling for starting time in the SEC. None of whom have any experience. Its a gamble. But Hurts gives us a better chance at winning this season imo.
Debored had a much better offensive group to work with. Bajakian laid the foundation for dobbs imo and has made a name for himself in the nfl.
You guys serious? a divide in the locker room? i would hope having a legit QB who can actually get us scoring points would unite the team pretty efficiently. On top of that it seems like Hurts has been a pretty low key guy for the most part, i know most QBs in his spot wouldn't have taken that situation as well as he did. We would be instantly 2 wins better with him on our roster. IMO. It's like inserting Dobbs for Worley but probably even more so of a benefit.
You can consider any system you want, JG can't play brother. He's a below average QB in this league.Your completely not even considering system. Nothing about Chaney past QBs and systems says Hurts would fit here. JG on other hand is an exact fit for what Chaney has worked with and helped. Crompton and Bray ring a bell for guys not exactly ones you want having to do so much so you simplify their reads and let the sling it?
Another Chaney note from utsports article. In 2012-2014 for 3 straight yrs Chaney offenses had the fewest sacks allowed. That has to be music to Jgs ears.

Glasses will be raised. Very sorry for your loss. Prayers for all of you.Hey brethren and sisteren. When y'all raise a glass this evening, could you raise one for the best damn father in law a dude could ever ask for?? My wife's dad, AQ3 S.K. Eddingfield, USN (Ret.) passed on this morning at 1125. Thanks in advance.
I know it's just lip service and I don't know if it's actually true but I love hearing that a coach will adapt to the players. You saw Chad Morris fail miserably this year because of his inability to do that, and Butch was the same way. I think the mark of a great football coach is one who works with what he's got instead of making what he's got try to work in his system. I don't know that Chaney actually does that, but hopefully he does.Could not have picked a more perfect fit:
“I’m thrilled to announce Jim Chaney as our offensive coordinator,” Pruitt said. “Jim couldn’t be a better fit for our program at the University of Tennessee. His track record of success guiding offenses speaks for itself from his time at Purdue with Drew Brees to his time in the NFL and his success in the SEC at Georgia, Arkansas, and, of course, previously with the Vols.
“What most impresses me about Jim is his knowledge of the game and also the way he has adapted his offenses to his players’ strengths. He’s had years where he has guided one of the nation’s top passing offenses and years where his offenses have been near the top in rushing. He could coach every position on offense and is a true teacher of the game.
“Jim has proven to be a great mentor for young men, and I’m excited to have him here at Tennessee.”
After watching the Bama game Monday, I think JG has been underrated. Tua was constantly pressured--threw interceptions, and seemed average. I wonder how he would do with our offensive line and receivers? JG was pressured non-stop, and he still made great passes and seldom threw an interception. That said, I think a Dobbs like quarterback like Hurts is good when your OL doesn't hold long, but hopefully Pruitt is fixing this.Hurts is better than JG. But, we only have him for one year. Listening to everyone on radio this morning, they have all talked about how Chaney has ran a variety of different systems, fitting what he does to the current players he has. Seems like that's exactly what he does.I know it's just lip service and I don't know if it's actually true but I love hearing that a coach will adapt to the players. lol, now we are taking JG over Tua. This forum is the best. After watching the Bama game Monday, I think JG has been underrated. Tua was constantly pressured--threw interceptions, and seemed average. IMO, forget Hurts, (if this is even possible) keep JG, and let the other quarterbacks fight to take his place.
I've said this for years about QBs. Even Brady looks horrendous when he's under pressure (see first half of SB against Falcons) and then all of a sudden looks like a HoF when he has a clean pocket and wide open receivers (see 2nd half of SB against Falcons). QB get WAY too much credit and blame, supporting cast, especially the OL, don't get nearly enough. After watching the Bama game Monday, I think JG has been underrated.
