After watching the Bama game Monday, I think JG has been underrated. Tua was constantly pressured--threw interceptions, and seemed average. I wonder how he would do with our offensive line and receivers? JG was pressured non-stop, and he still made great passes and seldom threw an interception. That said, I think a Dobbs like quarterback like Hurts is good when your OL doesn't hold long, but hopefully Pruitt is fixing this.

IMO, forget Hurts, (if this is even possible) keep JG, and let the other quarterbacks fight to take his place.
This is an excellent point

If he was in the game Monday JG would have been in the Hospital before the first quarter was over because he took his 9th blindside hit from a blitzer he had no idea was coming.

And the greatest college quaterback in the the history of the world took them as well. I dont know how good JG could be with great protection, but he wasnt flat out terrible behind the worst line I have ever seen.

You can consider any system you want, JG can't play brother. He's a below average QB in this league.

I've been pretty critical at times of JG but the kid has ability. He is not bellow average. He is what I would currently call good level. He isn't now great or elite because he doesn't make those around him raise their level of play vs needing alot around him.

His physical tools are great with potential to be elite.

His mental and leadership is what is holding him back. I can't put that all on him. He didn't have a real QB coach until last season yr 3 of his TN career and he has yet to play behind anything but a horrid OL. He progressed last yr compared to previous yr. I expect he makes another jump this yr with a QB coach/OC that is familiar with working with QBs that have hard time progressing through reads.

I didn't say that, I said that he would not look so good in our offense. I wondered how JG would look with Bama offense, and think JG has been under rated.
So Alabama has a better roster than we do? Good info.

JG is not underrated. He's Matt Simms 2.0. He's not very good. You have to do a lot of work and play nearly perfect football to win with him against good teams.

Ok!..hi I’m Helen Keller and I’m making this up as I go along.how could I randomly make something like that? What am I gaining other than you coming at me as if dont like rocker?
I apologize for being over the top. When I read your first post, it sounded to me a lot like you don't like Rocker. That is why I responded the way that I did. Now that I realize what you mean, I can agree that there are some numbnuts on here (not you) that think Rocker can't coach.

I've said this for years about QBs. Even Brady looks horrendous when he's under pressure (see first half of SB against Falcons) and then all of a sudden looks like a HoF when he has a clean pocket and wide open receivers (see 2nd half of SB against Falcons). QB get WAY too much credit and blame, supporting cast, especially the OL, don't get nearly enough.
Fulmer has preached that for years-- You need the Big Uglies.

No to Hurts, great get and a good QB. But I don't want to spend a scholarship on another one year QB who may/may not start. Also as pointed out except for Fromm Chaney hasn't really had many running QBs.

Here's a breakdown of his PPG rankings as an OC from sports-reference.com because I'm that guy...

Purdue 1997-2005 (NFL QBs Coached: Drew Brees, Kyle Orton)
18th
16th
19th
23rd
93rd - Year after Brees
40th
59th
20th
75th - Year after Orton

Tennessee 2009-2012 (NFL QBs Coached: Tyler Bray)
43rd
58th
106th - Bray injured half season
22nd

Arkansas 2013-2014 (NFL QBs Coached: Brandon Allen)
106th
44th (2 1k yard rushers)

Pittsburgh 2015 (NFL QBs Coached: Nathan Peterman)
68th

Georgia 2016-2018 (NFL QBs Coached: TBD)
102nd
20th (2 1200 yard rushers)
16th (2 1k yard rushers)

Dude, stop comparing Tua to JG. Night and day. JG would struggle to get a first down against Clemson. Just like he did against Alabama.

Even Peterman. This dude can coach QB's. And Kirby demoted him to TE coach. Kirby's recruiting will keep him there. But he is not a good coach right now.

Kirby paid the piper for previous yr mistake. He got desparate to hold on to COley so AM didn't take him. Made Chaney angry. Now he kept Coley from Miami and will have to promote Coley to play caller. He has no other play here. Coley jumps ship if he isn't promoted and Smart can't lose that recruiting.

One of the worst takes I have read on the subject lol. Compare their stats then also consider Sims played behind 4 NFL linemen (3 who were drafted) while JG has played behind a line that was patched together from a pickup game.

Hiring Chaney is definitely good for JG. I think Chaney can absolutely make him better, as he has done it many times in the past. Does that mean I don't want UT to make a clear upgrade at QB with a grad transfer if given the opportunity? Of course not. They need to win. Enough 5-7 seasons.

Tua average? 64.7% 295 yards 2 TDs and 2 INTs...I mean it wasn't his best game but average?
