Recruiting Forum Football Talk [RIP 9.3.2019]

I'm still catching up all the way from p3848.. been lurking the last couple weeks because basically all takes, no matter how hot, cold, or irrelevant have been covered. Just gotta add:

That’s my AD...

Plus Memphis' WR coach, IMG's head coach, FSU's secondary coach, and UGA's coaches from the trenches.

...

I'm not sure if the dust has settled on Pittman/Tee talk either, but we shouldn't be snubbing our noses at Friend as an OL coach, just because Pittman is perceived by us fans to be marginally better.

I'd love to bring Tee in, but it's all about timing and fit. I LOVE Coach YAC at WR, and yeah Weinke's the quiet one that we don't know tf is going on around, what his value is other than IMG ties. We also don't know how good of a RB coach Tee would be, or how much it would really matter, how he would adjust to coaching that position, etc.

Bottom line:

Pruitt
Sherrer
Rumph
Fair
Kelly
Chaney
Friend
Niedermeyer
YAC
Weinke

looks pretty damned elite to me.

In two years we're going to have at least one level of elite talent (granted we need two or three deep to compete with the big boys) at QB, OL, WR, LB, CB, S, with some dang good parts at RB and DL.

I'm happy, y'all. When does Spring Practice start up again?

So Alabama has a better roster than we do? Good info.

JG is not underrated. He's Matt Simms 2.0. He's not very good. You have to do a lot of work and play nearly perfect football to win with him against good teams.
We don't beat Auburn and UK if JG is as bad as you say. People hated Crompton with an equal passion until Midway through a season with Kiffin and Chaney and some roll out packages.

Forget JG just give Chaney a chance

One of the worst takes I have read on the subject lol. Compare their stats then also consider Sims played behind 4 NFL linemen (3 who were drafted) while JG has played behind a line that was patched together from a pickup game.
They both have strong arms, but are slow, bad at feeling pressure in the pocket, hold onto the ball too long, can't throw a deep ball, and take way too many hits because they can't read anything pre-snap. There are absolutely similarities.

I would hazard a a guess that CJC and CJP have already covered the "who" part of the QB situation.

For Hurts to play QB at the next level would take having a coach who can train him on reading coverages better and pulling the trigger faster. He's not going to be able to play a running QB position at that level. A coach like CJC can address that. We would be very fortunate to have him. He's won a lot of games and is a quality person.

For Hurts to be an athlete that goes to the NFL as a Swiss Army knife, he can go somewhere else.

If no grad transfer happens, CJC believes he can improve JG and/or develop Shrout/Mauer to be able to handle the role.

So I guess we will see what happens.

Are we seeing the affects of early signing period but on coaches?

Schools rushing to hire which is leading to schools potential having multiple coaching searches in one offseason.

If we have normal signing periods wherre most hires were made then you don't have the rush to add Kliff at USC when he knows NFL teams are calling. Diaz would have still been at Miami when Richt retired.

Now you have potentially spavital going pro. Does this mean Texas st falls back to Briles and FSU looking for new OC again?
interesting question and point. maybe our guy is just ahead of the curve....waiting it out and seeing what dominos fall. it obviously didn't help USCw by getting "their guy" early. greener pastures await.

something to think about and to keep an eye on.,

Not really comparing the two. I am pointing out your ignorance of the fact that if you dont have any protection, you arent doing much of anything as a QB, no matter who you are.
That is literally what you are doing, but yes, I'm aware that having good OL play is better than not having good OL play. Again, solid info.

Hubbs said -if- the right QB was there as a grad he could see CJP taking him. Partly for depth, but also as a guy to push JG in camp, despite what anyone thinks about JG he improved with Keller in camp and CJP's staff.

Ok, so JG won 2 games. What about the other 7?

I don't hate the guy. Heck I love his toughness and competitiveness, but he is what he is. You aren't competing for anything in this conference with him at QB. That's just the reality. If you have the opportunity to improve your roster, you take it.

After what happened at Bama, NO WAY does Hurts go somewhere that doesn’t guarantee him the starting job. He’s got 1 year to play his way into a draft that will be heavy on QBs. He can’t risk that going to a school where he’s fighting for a job. Just my take...

price said the same thing on swain this morning, in regards to grad transfers. that a qb would be considered. but it'd have to be the right qb.

I think you have made an assumption. There's maybe 5 schools in the entire country that Hurts isn't starting at, Tennessee isn't one of them.
