You have been more observant than me. I haven't noticed anyone running a box and one against us. Which games did you observe this? Box and ones are typically used to take one player away. Triangle and two to take two players away. As much scoring potential as we have from all the positions, I can't imagine it would be very effective. I think we do struggle against a zone at times. I think the best offense against the zone is ball movement and getting open threes and hitting them. I think how we shoot the three this year dictates how far we go. If the opponent can pack it in and limit our inside game, it falls on the three point shooters to hit open shots.
I think you have made an assumption. There's maybe 5 schools in the entire country that Hurts isn't starting at, Tennessee isn't one of them.
Making a point about potential players by tearing down our actual ones on a day that should be focused on positivity just isn't in my head space. We have months for that sort of stuff.Ok, so JG won 2 games. What about the other 7?
I don't hate the guy. Heck I love his toughness and competitiveness, but he is what he is. You aren't competing for anything in this conference with him at QB. That's just the reality. If you have the opportunity to improve your roster, you take it.
Your last point is the biggest one. Coaching.Late responding to this. I haven't noticed a box and one either, but I haven't watched all games from beginning to end. Schofield and Bone should be able to break down a box as I assume the man is on Grant.
As to a zone, it does slow down the pace, but this team is perfect to break it. In a 2-3, the weakness is the high post. As you said, ball movement is key, but Grant and Schofield can hit the shot at the high post in addition to hoping that Bone, Bowden, and Turner are consistent with the three ball. But last year, you saw Barnes put Fulkerson in against a zone. His IQ is very high, and he will take the ball at the high post, pivot, which causes the defense to collapse, and then find Alexander or Grant on the low post. There was one specific game last year (can't remember which one) that Fulky ate up the zone.
This team is just built to beat almost any defense thrown at them, and the coaching is there for them to understand how to attack them all. It is truly fun to watch.
yes, I believe we will get an OC this week.I know it has probably been talked about in depth, but I haven't been on in a few days--- First-- SOLID hire in Chaney. Pruitt can hand him the reins and concentrate on the D... He won't bolt anywhere either, he likes it in Knox... Second-- is there still any smoke on potentially getting Tee on staff?

Dont misunderstand me, I dont think JG is some awesome QB, but I do think he gets more blame than he deserves. I think he is very capable and would be behind a decent line. With that said, if we could grab Hurts, he would start day 1 IMO.Ok, so JG won 2 games. What about the other 7?

I think Pruitt and Friend are just OG bros who are in it to win their way together. Hiring Pittman would free Friend up to do more associate head coach/recruiting/administrative things with Pruitt.
I apologize for being over the top. When I read your first post, it sounded to me a lot like you don't like Rocker. That is why I responded the way that I did. Now that I realize what you mean, I can agree that there are some numbnuts on here (not you) that think Rocker can't coach.
Kept Rocker for one season then let him go because he was a lazy recruiter. Sherrer was the other holdover and stayed until UT hired him.
Here is facts I know. He is a nomad, doesnt stay anywhere long. He is no nonsense. When hired at Ga, he was asked if Ga Dline needed to get bigger, his response: NO, nothing but a bunch of lard (butts). He loves coaching. He hates recruiting (his words). He doesnt like kissing (rings) of teenagers. You can fill in the parentheses with other (words).
Swain said this morning that Pruitt and Fulmer offered Bobo 2 million bucks to be our offensive coordinator but he wanted to be remain a head coach so he didn't take it. I'm not sure how much truth there is to the Yurcich stuff if that's true. But we got the right guy in Chaney but Bobo would've been a great hire also.
The best news out of that is that TN is now opening the checkbook. We're no longer bargain bin U. We're spending with the big boys

I'm not sure I'd go so far to say JG is underrated, but I agree 100% he was under constant pressure and heavy pressure effects all QBs including the best of the best. After watching the Bama game Monday, I think JG has been underrated. Tua was constantly pressured--threw interceptions, and seemed average. I wonder how he would do with our offensive line and receivers? JG was pressured non-stop, and he still made great passes and seldom threw an interception. That said, I think a Dobbs like quarterback like Hurts is good when your OL doesn't hold long, but hopefully Pruitt is fixing this.
IMO, forget Hurts, (if this is even a possible get) keep JG, and let the other quarterbacks fight to take his place.

There should be some degree of improvement on the OL with another year of development, another year of S & C, and the influx of the new talent. Chaney will also make JG and the entire UT offense better than this past fall. How much improvement is the $1.5 Million question.
