If Hurts comes here he’s 100% a day 1 starter. Not even sure why that’s a debate. He showed that against Georgia.

Straight up, if Hurts came here next season, that would immediately give us 1-2 more wins just from his athletic ability and experience alone.

I'm not sure we have a choice. We don't have a good LT on this team. Maybe Tatum finally develops into one, but if not, I'm not sure what the other option is. Wright is already bigger than anyone else we have there at RG not to mention how talented he is. Though, as I said, it wouldn't surprise me to see Carvin starting there over him.

Is Niehaus a guard for certain, or is he a potential LT option?

My prediction of starters assuming Smith unfortunately cannot play:

LT: Wanya, LG: JJ, C: Kennedy, RG: Wright, RT: Richmond

I also expect the guards to be in a fierce battle with Carvin for the starting job. So it could be Carvin starting over Wright as a freshman. We'll see. Good problem to have.

Without Trey: LT-Richmond, LG-JJ/Carvin, C-Ryan (Kennedy if healthy), RG-JJ/Carvin, RT-Morris/Wright

With Trey the RT spot becomes a 3 way battle...but I'd give the edge to Richmond, but he may lose the spot as the season went on.

Agree, but seeing Mays out there this season, I don't think it is a stretch to possibly have Morris starting or have both in heavy rotation depending on how they adapt and develop.

Mays only started in 7 games, after a few other injuries on their OLine though.

I'm going to predict we play GA tight this year. We make it a good game. Heck, it was a closer game this year than the score indicated. I think we beat them in 2020 straight up.

It’s my upset pick for next year. We get a bye week before them

What I really love about this class is with all the big time OL guys it'll push that group in off-season to improve. Carvin/JJ/Tatum will have to really put in some work if they plan to see the field. Cause Morris/Wright are both potential starters day 1 but then you still got a few other 4 star guys behind them that have SEC size day 1 as well.

We started 3 here under Dooley. Granted Heistand is probably the best OL coach in football but still.

His deficiencies are between the ears. If Chaney could make Peterman serviceable, he can make JG good enough to win games.

I'm going to say this with the caveat that I don't think Hurts comes here but I'm going to throw in my .02 cents anyway.

JG has been tough and played admirably through injury etc during his career. He has not embarrassed the university and he hasn't to my knowledge thrown temper tantrums about not playing save what was presented to us on the GT sidelines by the announcers.

All that being said if you can get a qb of Hurts caliber to transfer in even if its for one year you do it. This is big boy football. This isn't daycare. We and specifically Pruitt need to win games and as quickly as possible. A guy like Hurts would be huge in regards to the mobility we will most likely need behind our OL. JG is not a mobile passer. I don't think this would affect any current qb's on the roster nor would it affect Harrison Bailey either.

If you can get Hurts....you do it.
