Talk about taking a chance with your build site! Would Volcano insurance even matter if you needed it?!?
Imagine one day an army of orcs digs a network of tunnels under the cover of darkness into the volcano then directs a torrent of cold water into the dormant magma chamber below. That would suuuck.

this is from the Carter thread, but the thing that stood out to me is the point on who we had to beat out for several key guys in this class. i think there's still some folks that believe the ranking should be higher or that we missed somewhere else etc....but if you do go down the list and look at this class and they type of players we were able to get from top programs, not hat on the table, but legit recruiting wins against them....

i think that says a lot about where we're heading.

There's really no big separation between 3rd to 11th

3rd is Texas: 294.53
11th is Clemson 274.22

That's essentially a single player difference if he's a high 4 star. So I'm pretty happy with where we are, our lowest rated guy is Nate Spillman and he's a 3 star at 84.39 and an in-state kid. But our per player average is 90.93 which is the highest it's been in quite a while.

Callahan was on Basilio talking about this yesterday. Said that Heupel got more involved in Carterā€™s recruitment once he heard that Carter was a film junkie and just loves the game of football. Iā€™m sure thereā€™s more to it but this was a factor in Heupelā€™s push. Also helps answer some of the doubts about Heupelā€™s recruiting ability against the heavyweights.

Diamond Head is an amazing view but very touristy since itā€™s so close to downtown Waikiki. We did a hike on the other side of the island that we thought was better with a lot less people. More locals. Wish I could remember itā€™s name.

I would miss Oahu entirely. Much better, quieter islands to experience.

that's fine, and i am not gonna really disagree or anything.....but....

You can't say Tennessee has recruited "poorly" over the last 8 years. There's been multiple years where Butch and Pruitt landed top 10 classes and for those that that aren't really paying close attention, and just see the rankings that's enough. But i think we all know, even going back to Kiffin's big class, there was always a hook with those classes. Butch's 1st one was a legacy class, then the other was 30+ kids, and pruitt was getting highly rated players that Bama or Georgia didn't want etc, etc, etc....point being there were always other narratives about 'how good' were those good classes?

this class doesn't have that at all. in fact, this class looks and feels more like the classes we used to bring in back in the day. more of a national flavor, that's attracting the best instate kids because they want to be here again.

i think this class has a very good chance of being that cornerstone class for this program under CJH and sets the tone for what you can expect going forward.

of course the dynamic is different today with ESD, NIL, and the transfer portal, so more land mines to be aware of and account for, but i really like the make up of this class. there are a ton of guys in this class that are top 3-5 players in their state, many who are winning All Conf/Dist/State/MVP awards....some big personalities, and some with some giant chips on their shoulder (John Slaughter and Jack Lutrell to name a couple). not to mention some guys that i think will turn in to good leaders for this program.....Nico, Herring among others.

i'm excited about where we're headed....and it looks like we're getting the types of players that can keep us there.

The only part of the video that I didnā€™t like is that it stopped too soonā€¦.. just getting into Dixieland Delight!
Couldnā€™t tell you how many hours I wasted on YouTube after that game going through all the fan videos of Dixieland Delight. Truly an amazing moment, best of 2022 without a close second.

The thing about Arion Carter that impresses me the most, he went to his HC and said "let me play both ways, I can help this defense"

Unlike a player like Whitehead who essentially did the exact opposite while here. He's also obviously a well spoken guy who you could tell just based on how he spoke and who he thanked for his success that he's a high character kid. I'm excite to see what him and the Herring brothers can do in the next 2 to 3 years playing together.

Iā€™d love to hit up the other islands. Iā€™ve been to Oahu 7 times but it was never my choice, it was just a port visit on deployments. If you escape Waikiki and get around the island itā€™s really nice but wish I could have tried a different island. Buddy of mine was from Big Island and we were supposed to catch a quick flight over there for a couple days on one of our stops but the plans fell through. I was bummed.

Davein Hobbs i think lined up at every position on the field this past season according to his highlight video...DL, DE, LB, TE, OL, WR, RB...i think he took some snaps at QB too...didn't see if he played in the secondary or kicked anything.......? lol.
