that's fine, and i am not gonna really disagree or anything.....but....
You can't say Tennessee has recruited "poorly" over the last 8 years. There's been multiple years where Butch and Pruitt landed top 10 classes and for those that that aren't really paying close attention, and just see the rankings that's enough. But i think we all know, even going back to Kiffin's big class, there was always a hook with those classes. Butch's 1st one was a legacy class, then the other was 30+ kids, and pruitt was getting highly rated players that Bama or Georgia didn't want etc, etc, etc....point being there were always other narratives about 'how good' were those good classes?
this class doesn't have that at all. in fact, this class looks and feels more like the classes we used to bring in back in the day. more of a national flavor, that's attracting the best instate kids because they want to be here again.
i think this class has a very good chance of being that cornerstone class for this program under CJH and sets the tone for what you can expect going forward.
of course the dynamic is different today with ESD, NIL, and the transfer portal, so more land mines to be aware of and account for, but i really like the make up of this class. there are a ton of guys in this class that are top 3-5 players in their state, many who are winning All Conf/Dist/State/MVP awards....some big personalities, and some with some giant chips on their shoulder (John Slaughter and Jack Lutrell to name a couple). not to mention some guys that i think will turn in to good leaders for this program.....Nico, Herring among others.
i'm excited about where we're headed....and it looks like we're getting the types of players that can keep us there.
that was just a general statement, the "collective you", not that you said it.....I didn't say Tennessee has recruited "poorly" over the last 8 years.
But 90.93 is the highest per player average for a class at TN since Fulmer era. It's only the 2nd class we've had with the average per player rating over 90. Pruitt's best class in 2018 was 90.43 per player.
So objectively this is the best recruiting class TN has had since Fulmer retired, hopefully that translates to on the field production in the future and continuing to be a CFP team.
It can also be argued we had some pretty good classes followed up by horrible development and/or terrible culture and high number of attrition.I didn't say Tennessee has recruited "poorly" over the last 8 years.

I’d love to hit up the other islands. I’ve been to Oahu 7 times but it was never my choice, it was just a port visit on deployments. If you escape Waikiki and get around the island it’s really nice but wish I could have tried a different island. Buddy of mine was from Big Island and we were supposed to catch a quick flight over there for a couple days on one of our stops but the plans fell through. I was bummed.
i trust the readers too much?
This seems like normal @bignewt to me.
well in fairness to toot...he didn't have to deal with Darenell Wright all night long.....
fair. would have been better stated to say "it can't be said TN hasn't recruited well....."......I only quote people if what I'm saying is direct at or replying to them. It causes less confusion normally.
Don't disagree with what you said though.
But I think at this point we can all comfortably put to rest the early concerns about "can he recruit at this level"
Since now Heupel has essentially surpassed all previous recruiting classes and is approaching Fulmer level in recruiting. He'll need to repeat it for a few more years though obviously. I'd say next year's class will have some big time skill players in it (RB/WR especially).
He also has a highly rated brother coming through next year...There's really no big separation between 3rd to 11th
3rd is Texas: 294.53
11th is Clemson 274.22
That's essentially a single player difference if he's a high 4 star. So I'm pretty happy with where we are, our lowest rated guy is Nate Spillman and he's a 3 star at 84.39 and an in-state kid. But our per player average is 90.93 which is the highest it's been in quite a while.
