Ted Williams was special.

If you think my Gehrig “what if” numbers are wild, don’t get me started on what Williams would have done if he hadn’t gone off to war…. Twice 😖
To reiterate about Bonds HR record, if Ken Griffey JR could have stayed healthy he would be all time HR King and no PED's for him...

Ruth used sheep testicle bc he thought it made him stronger so he could hit the ball farther. Greenies were used bc the players thought it gave them an advantage…. Major League Baseball even artificially changes baseball seasons…. Just look at 1987 and the juiced baseball…. I don’t like Bonds but I don’t care even a little bit that he took roids,…. Maybe one day the veterans will put them in the Hall where they belong.
“Thought” and DID are two different things. You just acknowledged their records were clean and Bonds wasn’t. I do care and more importantly, those whose VOTES count follow suit. Veterans who watched him cheat his way to a record whilst being a horses ass human being should keep him out of where he doesn’t belong.

According to that same site, some other noteworthy southern cities:

Memphis 0 crime index - Literally can’t get worse.
Knoxville 3 crime index - same index as Nashville.
Asheville 1 crime index - surprising. Didn’t realize it’s so bad there.
Atlanta 3 crime index - surprised by this one, honestly.
Mobile 0 crime index - as we all learned with the riverboat fight. (Correction: that was Montgomery)

Luckily Asheville's index is driven by "property crime" aka West Asheville druggies stealing your lawnmower or bike.

Luckily the violent crime isn't what pushes it. Wife and I have lived and walked downtown at night for years, never an issue, though you read of things happening like any city. But violent crime is lower than the 4 TN cities, a bit less than Knoxville, the best of the TN metro areas. Was actually surprised how bad Nashville's was, but like someone else said..."there are different parts of town". And I think most people get that and why city stats can be misleading to many. I felt safe as hell in both Knoxville and Asheville, yet nationally speaking they are on the wrong side of cities. Guess it is relative to where you grew up and have lived.

Aren't crime indices based on prosecuted crimes? That's how you get a city like Atlanta showing up with a crime index indicating very little crime. Now that you have liberal DA's that don't prosecute crimes installed in many of the largest cities, the crime stats are heavily skewed. That doesn't mean those cities are safe.

There is a lot of appeal in parts of Shelby County. But this is discussed often. I really never get the extreme hate because I believe there are over 10k UT alums in the county.
Yeah it's stupid and based off..well..certain stereotypes.

I can even remember being a student at UT and whenever some folks ran into a Memphis native, they'd throw out some ignorant bs.

The way some write off Memphis as a part of our great state is astounding. You're writing off Blues, Jazz, Elvis, BB, even JT. Oh and the Tuohys!

I’ve only lived in Asheville since 2006 but I feel like it has turned into a s***hole.

Crime has been falling in Atlanta for over a decade now. If you haven't been there for a long visit since the mid aughts, well you'd be shocked.

Tons of gentrification and..."big city amenities"...if you catch my drift. It's truly becoming a modern metropolitan area, in some ways like NYC did 30 years ago. And (shocker) crime has gone down. Just gentrify and bring in diverse crowds... and the crime...well...will go elsewhere...

Depends where I suppose, but WAVL is safer than 10 years ago, and that's typically been the worst. They completely redid the projects by the South Slope and it's decent around there now. We now have Rabbit Rabbit, Pie Zaa, and the Sports Club on our block, repaved streets and artwork, imo things have improved greatly here. Not sure where has gotten worse in the last 15 years, tbh, but I'm sure there may be areas. If anything, the average home is nearing 500k and it's becoming all too inclusive.

If an area is becoming a ****hole I'd expect people moving away and deeply falling home prices. Something like Detroit a decade ago.

Crime data is just never an accurate picture of a city as a whole. Like you said, different parts of town. Anyone that lives in Nashville knows the places to avoid. I’ve actually lived in two of those places and outside of my car being broken into once I haven’t had anything happen to me.

Also, tourism. I’d love to see what Nashville’s “violent crime” data looks like without tourists getting into fights and getting drunken disorderly charges on Broadway. That’s an every weekend occurrence.

Bob was on SiriusXM earlier...started to talk about our freshman QB...began to cringe...then he pronounced Nico's last name like he had been practicing all offseason...and pretty smoothly too.

I'll also give him more big credit. The 2 show hosts kept trying to poke holes. First it was offense...no HH or Hyatt...WHAT SHALL HYATT DO?!? Then Bob came in dropping bombs over Baghdad like...well how about some Milton...Bru Bru...Thornton...Keyton...oh yeah Squirrel..oh and the TE room is improved and all 3 RBs are back.

He held his own and more. Was actually proud of ole Bob on this day. Deep down, once he buries his learned broadcasting ways, he's a VFL deep down 🍊🍊🍊

Lol agree. I blame the rowdy tourists too 😉

And yes before we moved I looked at neighborhoods, not just cities. Though also realized I'd want to visit different areas, so the overall city still does matter, but nowhere near what a city index would indicate. I mean, in Nashville there's about 5 different areas I'd visit regularly, and pretty sure none are dangerous. If anything, a bit uppity like the gulch. And not going to be concerned about drunk tourists by the tonks.

Healthy, Griffey Jr is the greatest I ever saw. Bonds right behind him, and that's without the juice.
Did you see Barry Bonds clean?

PEAK Griffey ‘96-‘99 (200+ HR in 4yr Jr)
7.6 WAR, .996 OPS 152+, 1.1 dWAR

CLEAN Bonds ‘90-‘93 (Little Barry Pitt/SF)
9.2 WAR, 1.028 OPS 185+, 1.1 dWAR

Ken Griffey Jr had (3) 8 Win seasons in his career.
Little Barry had (8) 8 Win seasons before swelling.

Have you heard anything of the staff going after any JUCO guys?
I haven't but that's another possibility once the season starts. So far reports haven't been good on the JUCO offensive lineman (Larry Johnson III) from this last class. I would think that CGG might try the JUCO route for a defensive tackle though. He's had a lot of success with JUCOs in the past.
