If true, that’s a shame after his fall from Grace a few years ago and to make the comeback he did just to let the wheels fall off at the end due to lack of discipline in the classroom. With all the resources that are made available to help these guys with their classes, if he did nothing else besides showing up to class, he should at least be able to scrape by and pass. I don’t know his situation, but it sounds like he may be throwing away two great opportunities by missing the last game of his career as a Vol and missing out on his degree. He might be kicking himself for a long time over that.

Sometimes the Portal is like Club La Vela circa early 00's. It's gonna be ladies night, Girls Gone Wild is gonna be there, and then you show up and it's like 5,000 dudes. And then you say, "Oh, this isn't what I thought it was, at all." and then you leave.

Some folks over hype the portal, not every player that is in the portal is some all American. If your good at identifying players and developing them recruiting out of high school is still the main priority. And then you add from the portal people that can help you and best fit your teams culture. And you still have to stay inside the 85 limit. We will be fine, our staff knows the landscape better than we do. We recruited heavy on D in recruiting and will pick up a few more I am sure in recruiting or the portal. Plus we have have several young D end like Joseph’s and Pierce and DT West that are going to factor in. We do really need to land Carter at LB. If we could find another LB in the portal that would be nice. But we have to be selective we just can’t take every player in the portal. We need impact guys there. GBO!!!!

Don't think we are too impressed with any defensive guys in the portal as of now. Not sure any of anyone in there is a MUST get at the moment. There will be more portal guys after bowl games and this window is open until January 18th. We have time to be patient.

Yep…. All our fans have to hear is former 4 or 5* and they want them… doesn’t matter how bad they are now.

That type of defense will bite you in the ass more times than not.

We were 5th in the SEC in points allowed while facing the most possessions on the season… No excuse for the South Carolina game but it seems they did pretty good to me.

Huh? We have only received 2 public commitments…a TE and kicker. I’m guessing it’s the TE. Can you just come out and say who it is, since he’s already committed? Did we take Castles instead of Jaheim Bell? That’s the only thing that makes sense, which tells me the coaches were worried Bell was a culture killer. This also tells me they believed what Beamer told them about him, which I’m not sure I would do, considering the things Beamer likes to say about other programs when he gets a chance to take shots.

F) Heupel is focused on his offense and ignoring the defense.

No one wants to consider that. I love Coach Heupel. I love his offense. But offense cannot be our sole focus. We have to improve our defense. And it's like many of you are forgetting that while lamenting that defense this year, the constant excuse was "we just don't have the talent yet". There are some talented guys in the portal. Could there be other reasons we're not pursuing them? Absolutely. But why aren't we pursuing ANY of them? And I'm talking defense, not offense.

That is an insane take…. If that was true then you would see it in recruiting as well….. 7 of our top twelve prospects are on the defensive side of the ball…. 8 out of 13 if you include Jalen Smith who I can’t believe isn’t a 4* yet.

JMO, but I think we need 1 CB, 1 S, 1 LB, and 1 Edge guy, but they have to be impact guys. I also think we need another DL for the rotation. Adding more for improved depth would be great, but we probably don't have those spots. But with Banks gone, I think an impact LB is probably the single most important team need.

Who do you think are the impact guys available right now that we should have a shot at?

I guess the better question would be who in the portal is a MUST get guy in the secondary? I don't think that guy is there currently. If we take someone, he must be a bona-fide day 1 starter.

We need a number one guy….. would be awesome if matthews stepped up and proved to be that guy as a freshman.

Getting a Portal guy is like getting a used car. Very hit or miss and you'd better do your research. Gurus and hand wringers freaking out over lack of interest in Defensive players when all you know are names. What's not listed are grades, work ethic, locker room impact. Coaches know more than we do and do not feel the need to share everything. Good for them. May is probably when we'll really know much.

We have 3 games in two weeks with the middle one being Austin Peay and the last one on December 28 at Ole Miss. Then, MSU at home on January 3. If they both legitimately can't play against Arizona, then you can almost sit them 3 weeks to finally get healthy.

Except, will need all hands on deck against the powerhouse Austin Peay. Could be a key win come tournament seeding time…

This. The current class is really strong on defensive players. I've heard that they don't want to take a CB in the portal because they are very happy with their CB recruits. I could see them bringing in a linebacker and a d-lineman, but I'm not sure they see the roster in as bad of shape in the secondary as many fans do.

My wife had to give me a ride to work one day because my car was in the shop and she would usually pick up two of her co-workers, technically employees, that lived near our house and did not have a ride. They were both black and we were friends with both but more so the son than the mother. Somehow, we all got on the topic of the cell phone marketed to elderly people and they were trying to remember the name of it. I remembered it but was keeping quiet.

My wife blurts out " wasn't it called the jigaboo? " and Beatrice (the mother co-worker) in the back says "yeah that's it!" I turned around and made eye contact with MyQuell (the son) and we both just start dying laughing. I then turned to my wife and explain to her that it's called the Jitterbug and not the jigaboo. MyQuell and I then explain how the word she used is typically used.

It was such an innocent moment from my wife and enthusiastic agreement from Beatrice, who I know has experienced racism in her almost 60 years of life. It could have been taken the wrong way by people who didn't know us and were not friends with us but instead we all had a good laugh before work....funny memory that this video made me think of.
