Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

I know the team reinstated him, but have the coaches? Or was the team 100% of the equation?

Since CBJ always preaches having leadership from players and not just a coach-lead team, I'm sure the coaches allowed the team to make a final decision. I can't imagine allowing the team to vote on his reinstatement and then over ruling their decision.

Would love to know which one said this wouldn't surprise me if it was Jones given his emphasis on team and that he's mentioned Johnny not long ago (of course most college coaches are also well aware of JFF so it could've been any of them):

A head coach makes an interesting observation about Johnny Manziel:

While visiting with one head coach, our conversation led to the NFL Draft. We talked briefly about Johnny Manziel. His thoughts: “Pete, have you ever noticed in all of these photos you see of Manziel at pro games, parties or big events that he’s never with any of his Texas A&M teammates? That’s the one thing that really bothers me; those are supposed to be your guys.”

Sounds like a Paul Johnson comment. He is only guy dumb enough for that to offend him

Well its one of these

"My trip included stops at Georgia Tech, Georgia, Clemson, UNC, NC State, Duke, Elon, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Tennessee."

Maybe Cutcliffe?

From GA Tech? I don't know much about him but you'd think a coach at Tech would snatch a guy like Johnny up in an instant. He'd have been a game changer for a program like Tech even more than he was at A&M.

I cant wait until this season either, but the next season is the one I'm looking forward to the most. We will have just about everyone we have now (minus Worley, AJ and a few more) plus more great talent. We will still have guys like Randolph and Maggit if they dont leave early

I think we'll have a good shot at beating Oklahoma in 2015 and winning anywhere from 9-11 games.

Team 119 is going to be legit.

That's a textbook Mark Richt quote. I'd bet money it was him.

Well Cutcliffe is definitely a QB guru so it would be logical to ask his opinions on the QBs in the draft. I know I would. Unknowns like that always make me curious as to who said it.

This is almost the exact quote from that new movie Draft Day. The QB from Wisconsin had this problem.

Nice. Question for you or anyone else - does the author often write reviews this glowing? Cuz that's amazing.

Roussel, along with seemingly every other media member alive, has gushed about Jones previously. It doesn't surprise me at all. He goes out of his way to be open, friendly, and a salesman of the program to them, just like he does with everyone else. It's really a brilliant move on his part. Instead of viewing the Knoxville and national media as a distraction to be avoided (like Dooley), he sees them as a crucial part of his marketing plan - as a free loudspeaker to get out his message. No real surprise, then, that he's always welcoming them to the complex, sitting down and talking with them, and making them feel at home. Some really smart moves there.

On the staff focusing on NC...

They have probably spent more time in North Carolina this past Dec/Jan and now than Butch did in his first year combined with Dooley's three years. They are hitting the area very, very hard.

Elder has been there every week, Thigpen, Martinez, Gillespie have all been in the state. It has become a top priority once again and things are paying off.

Oh I agree with you there. Jones is great with the press. It's just nice to compare how well he does with them since I don't read many reviews of other coaches. I haven't heard anyone say anything but glowing things about him *but* the press often says glowing things in the first year. To me it sounds like Jones is a notch above that standard media honeymoon but I don't know if I'm just being biased towards Coach Jones.

Wth? Players struggling against 1st team d and succeeding against 2nd team is irrelevant? I saw stunts and blitzes against ferg and vanilla against Dobbs. Arm strength. Look at the trajectory of the football when ferg throws an out to the opposite hash as opposed to Dobbs. Rewatch that and tell me you see no diff in arm strength

As Bray proved, arm strength isn't enough. Fergus may prove to be a great QB but I personally think he needs more time to learn how to read coverages or he will not exceed Bray's "accomplishes".

Cuz Butch Stones stays strapped in NC. He'll be damned if anyone tries to step on his turf
