Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

Cuz Butch Stones stays strapped in NC. He'll be damned if anyone tries to step on his turf

Much of NC is Vol country already. I think it's fabulous he's pushing further inward it will only help us. It's also nice to see us making inroads in the Midwest, DC, and Virginia. Lotta people forget we're just almost close to Cincy as we are to Atlanta (the difference driving is really neglible, imo) and the same is true for many other spots. We are very lucky to be so close to big talent pools and that Jones has been smart enough to see that.

North Carolina is one of the few Southern states left other than Tennessee with a really significant Vol following. A lot of great talent comes out of there and with no instate SEC school to compete with, that should be easy pickings. Another smart move by Jones.

On the staff focusing on NC...

-Fortenberry

NC has always been very kind to the Vols. I'm nothing short of thrilled to see how hard CBJ and staff are hitting the state once again. NC should always be one of UT's top priorities imo. Loads of talent in the state and it's doing nothing but getting better and better.

SIAP vols offered jalin Barnett per 247. Elite OG from Oklahoma and I didn't see a thread for him. Figured I'd let one of the regular thread starters hook it up.

As Bray proved, arm strength isn't enough. Fergus may prove to be a great QB but I personally think he needs more time to learn how to read coverages or he will not exceed Bray's "accomplishes".

As has been said, ad nauseum, Bray was never the problem with Dooley's teams.

Add a running game or a coordinator smart enough to call a running play on 3rd and 1. Hated Chaney as a play caller.

I think a lot of that was on Bray in retrospect. Bray wanted to pass and so he passed. Talent carried him and he admitted he didn't study film. I don't think he cared one bit about game plans. Just look at how much Arky runs it with Chaney.

I think that's more of Alex Collins being the only playmaker they really have. Jmo

A lot of that was on Dooley. Bielema doesn't play that nonsense. The head coach can make an OC call a running game. Or he can make the play calls if needed for a game. If not he needs to be fired as a head coach.

Truth. I don't particularly care for Bielama but he's always been a run it and run it a lot kinda coach. Dooley was too lost and too inept. Even if he'd wanted to run it more (and I believe at some point I read that he did but it's been sooooo long ago) he had no leadership and no will.

Finally catching up on news today. So an NBA owner is banned for life for being a racist?

I wonder if the other owners are willing to give the NBA office that kind of power? Today it's racism, what's to stop them from banning owners for life for other activities?

And will this mean that players who use the N word or make a a "cracker" comment or beat their wives or get a DUI or any other bad behavior will be banned for life?

I'm interested to see how it plays out, and if the NBA even has legal authority to force a member to sell something the league doesn't own.

I'm sure yall have hashed all that out already, but it really is fascinating to see it all play out.

Mark Cuban said he was worried it's a slippery slope, but, from what I understand, his being forced to sell has not been voted on by 75% of the other owners. It is legal for them to do. Up until that happens, he's just been banned and fined. He can still own and profit from the team, he just is a silent owner, meaning he has no say in any of the team's business.

Saw Vols offered 5 - star OL Jalin Barnett. No thread on this guy? I'll start one later if needed.

Nice to hear that Dooley was putting Goodwill furniture in a mansion. He probably had posters of Hanson and Justin Bieber everywhere.

Spring Practice at Blackman has been canceled the first two days due to weather. It's on for today. Report on Jauan Jennings coming up tonight. If I can, pics included.

I couldn't agree more. We just need a smart QB who makes the right decisions. We have all the horses at the skill positions...just let 'em do their thing. I'm as excited as I've been for a season in a really long time...probably since early 00's.

He can't throw ducks or passes that go into the ground. The spring game doesn't prove anything to me. Let's see Worley throw an accurate pass in a game.
