Anyone notice Josh Smith is listed as the starter on the VQ depth chart? Has that been the case before and I missed it? North/Pearson/Smith.

I assume Malone will be the starter at some point but I can certainly understand having Smith listed there for now.

Also, Alex Ellis is slated as the starting TE.

Just looking that over, very interesting.

Some other notables - Gaulden, Owen Williams, and Croom at 3rd string. Pig in 4th, and Wharton not listed.

Also, they have Creamer's weight at 225, but he has looked much bigger in pics.

Personally I don't think we have to worry. I'm confident now we are more talented than 6 teams we play this year (including Mizzou, Vandy and UK) and I'm pretty sure we will beat them. Just need to avoid an upset and pull one ourselves in the other 6 games. If we can be two overturned calls away from 7 wins with last year's team, I think we will be fine this year.

I can dig it and I do agree. I like that he is holding the bar higher this year as we start camp because young or not, it needs to be. In truth last season didn't play out for me like I thought it should for Butch "being the man". I feel coaching lost us at least one. That may not make sense to some but I've chalked it up as old blood issues and Butch did his thing and brought that big class in.

About time we hit the manic phase . Is that a chicken?

It was posted in jest but somebody mentioned how we get 9 receivers on the field. When you try to mock a depth chart for our receivers it seems like someone has been slighted. It's a damn good problem to have. I expect a stable full of guys getting catches and fresh legs around the clock.

Just got back from the FF.

This is to those who enticed me to go over there. :the_finger:

It was a warning.

Seriously, a coach can't try to give a young team a sense of urgency early in fall camp without people reading the tea leaves and declaring the season a bust.

Still can't believe Cowherd said that. It's like the thing I want to say every day to everybody I talk football with, but I always feel like a lunatic for thinking it.

Maybe there are more cracks in Bama's armor that we don't know about yet??

Maybe he's just fishing for attention. Probably.

But he could have said anybody. He could have said he thought Ole Miss would beat Bama. Or Miss State. Or West Virginia. But no. He said Tennessee for some reason. Cause he probably realizes, like a lot of us that follow closely already have that Butch Jones is a boss. Yeah it's a long shot. But unlike most in the media, he's not petrified of making a bold prediction because he might be wrong.

Gah I hate Alabama. So I love the prediction, if nothing else, than for getting under their disgusting leathery dimpled skin.

Ha. No, I was talking about the "bad sign" thread. It's weird in there. There are some sane "simmer down" posts now though.

I was just teasing ya. Although, I am weird. Now I'm gonna have to go look at the 'bad sign' thread. Wish me luck. :salute:

Last season was a disappointment but once I went back and rewatched a few games, and then rewatched some old games from the height Fulmer era, I realized just how historically bad and unathletic our roster was last year. And we had some critical injuries to boot. Hard to pin that on CBJ IMO.

We should have beat Vandy and we had no business beating USCe so last year was a wash to me.

If you want an eye-opener, watch pretty much any game from about 1991-1992 until 2005, and then compare those team's athleticism and speed against what we conditioned ourselves to be normal.

By no means am I trying to belittle anyone--honestly--but a certain DL who just quit the team (he did quit, right?) would have never been offered a scholarship, IMO, during our heyday.

I'm seriously trying rid myself from using the following two words but:

Derek Dooley is to the University of Tennessee as chronic methamphetamine use is to teeth.

We were dismantled from the inside-out. When your football program is commonly and consistently described as a "dumpster fire"....that's...not good.

What Butch is doing, from both a cultural and recruiting standpoint, is reviving a program that had not only hit rock bottom, but thought it had done so multiple times, only to find out there were several more levels to which it could sink. He doesn't have to win big, he just has to win and go to a bowl game. A winning season would purge a lot of bad memories and bad juju and provide enough momentum for 2015 to REALLY start something special.

Long post is long...sorry for all the words. :peace2:

And full meltdown in the FF tomorrow if everyone isn't flawless tonight.

I expect another poor performance. Why? Butch is tempering our expectations he's using a lot of coach speak for the fans. Jmo of course.

I will say that tonight is the night that injures occur. Hopefully we don't Get the bug this year.

talent is there for Smith no doubt. He will play plenty

Apparently we started offensive walkthroughs today in a 2-tight set with a fullback. Looked a little something like this:

QB: Justin Worley
RB: Marlin Lane
FB: Joe Stocstill
TE: Ethan Wolf, Daniel Helm
WR: Marquez North
OL: Jacob Gilliam, Marcus Jackson, Mack Crowder, Kyler Kerbyson, Coleman Thomas
