What about rep Vols?

There's enough of your ilk around already. Be willing to bet many of you will regret your anti-Hillary vote in short order. You do realize we just elected a novice to lead us in a dangerous world, not to mention he managed to go bankrupt in the 90's running a casino. Very difficult to accomplish that feat. I am not a big Hillary fan but I would rather have 4 more years of status quo than impending disaster.

I realize this sets me out on an island on this board but we disagree on everything else so this shouldn't be a big deal..

If you had to pick which one it would be would you pick that it is the players not learning from him, the players themselves, or the technique he teaches is not on par enough for what we need to have a great secondary?

Also, I don't think you can use UF here. That secondary coach is not the one who taught Tabor and that secondary. That was all Muschamp, imo.

On the later - it appears he is continuing what Muschamp and staff taught,as well as Meyer/staff before him. It's just really good technique for CFB where accuracy of QBs is not as good as the NFL - IMO.

The technique ours use a lot is to front and when the ball arrives try to strip or deflect. Never have liked that unless you are beat and that is your only option.

The majority of the players are not shadowing well. Most of the time they have them playing off 5 yards or more before they physically engage instead of bumping at the LOS, which makes it much more difficult to shadow. That's scheme and D-playcall. That tells me they want to play soft and contain, or, they don't feel they have the talent to bump at the LOS most of the time. Especially been true against teams that have a quality passing game/WR's. Notice where they are as a D on picks this season? Near the bottom. No recovery speed and not enough quickness overall to undercut routes and make plays on the ball.

Overall, it's the players IMO. If the school has a reputation for producing NFL players, they attract more quality. The recruits know who can get them there. Where are the top CB recruits going? Not UT. They are getting top quality recruits at S. Every school from Bama on down takes 3* projects that have upside they can develop for quality depth and starting when they become 3rd and 4th year guys. But the elites go where they will get the best development to get to the league.

I was a Martinez backer in the early years. But he is not succeeding in teaching good man coverage technique. All you have to do is watch UF's secondary to see how that's done. His guys are fronting receivers and never turn their heads around instead of following/shadowing on the back hip within a footstep with the heads turning to the ball when the receivers do. Either he teaches crappy technique or they simply don't learn from him. Only Cam does it correctly that I have observed. Not sure about Osborne yet. Know Byrd knows how from HS, but he's not playing the position. If he is teaching it right, then he is recruiting the wrong guys. Either way that is a major problem IMO.

Watch the Ohio State secondary. They play technically very well. No FLY ZONE......

Only things relevant.

- Alexis Johnson no where near ready to help.
- Sutton Kamara game-time decisions.
- (on Mosley) Trying to find big, able bodies to help d-line.
- @ 59mins: Darrin Kirkland Jr.'s hair game is getting stronger.

Thanks. If big Charles is sliding over (after Butch recently shut down that proposition) then I presume Bain and maybe others must not be able to go this week.

what if: 😈

washington - pac 10 champ
auburn - sec champ
wisconson- big 10 champ
va tech- acc champ

who is the 4 in the playoff?

Per Butch's presser:

Kyle Phillips is good to go on Saturday. Chance Hall is a maybe. Alexis Johnson isn't remotely close to playing (redshirt for him, obviously).

Sutton and Kamara are gametime decisions but practiced both days this week (sounds like they play).

So no more DL or OL from JUCO...
Jmo :hi:

What is the non Butch opinion on Kamara and Suttons return? I would be overjoyed just to have Kamara back this Saturday.

Sit Kamara and run the two we have. Kelly can get 200+ on them. Kid is special.

I must admit Butch can recruit RBs. The Lewis kid looked good late as well. We'll be fine at RB for a while.

Didn't see enough of Fils-Aime, but Lewis did look good.

CFA look like a young back with burst. Backs side dude was collapsing on him a lot with #12 running read option look. I think Kelly can win Kentucky us this game. Kentucky can't stop the run either. Hope we don't get pass happy if the running game is working.

Yep, Kelly and Dobbs need to combine for about 250.

Anyone think we may be slightly better than we should be next year just because of all the young guys getting so much experience due to injuries?

John Kelly ruptured his left upper dorsimus. Feared to be lost for the year.

Please don't even joke about injuries at this point...may work like Voodoo.

At the beginning of the season, so many said as long as Tennessee doesn't have injuries, will be a great season...tempted Fate, and Fate threw down unheard of volume of injuries on our hapless Volunteers.

:hi:

Way to look on the bright side CatBone!
Heck, if Donald Trump can win the Presidency of the USA 🇺🇸! Then just about anything is possible...maybe you will even get laid during his term in office! :)

At some positions I think it helps. Warrior, Osborne, Tatum. Maybe Ell Berry, though he only has a year left IIRC. These are guys with upside who can benefit from the live action reps.

There are some other guys who I think will be mediocre no matter how much they play this year. But overall? Yeah, the experience is a good thing in the long run.

Exactly. As you know I was using UF as the example due to posters' familiarity. If you follow OSU at all, you know how good they are every year, especially since Meyer arrived, but also as a tradition going back for decades. The recruits know if OSU commits to them, they are going to get top development if they go.
