What's our DE rotation look like next year? Losing Barnett, Vereen, and Lewis.

Phillips and Butcher now DTs.

Leaves Taylor and Mixon out of guys with experience. Add Smith and the 2017 guys. Surely Kongbo goes back to full-time DE.

Phillips is a DE playing inside because of emergency IMO. I think he'll be back out on the edge next year.

And yeah, all of the other names you mentioned. Mixon is solid. Kongbo should make a leap if Stripling is as good as we think he is. Taylor makes good things happen on the field. No idea what to expect from Smith. Mykelle McDaniel also exists, don't know what to expect from him either.

We should be good at DE next year as long as we don't get scuttled by injuries again. Barnett is irreplaceable, but these guys can play.

True and why having hard time perhaps not going. He told me to go because I am always there for him and working out with him but can't bring myself to do it.

The fact that he was trying to think of you by saying this is all the more reason to go to his scrimmage. DVR the game...enjoy your son while you can. :hi:

Guys,

Son has a basketball pre season play day game where they play two games with running clocks. He wants to be with his teammates playing ball. Guess I have taught him well. Coach said ok regardless.

We have season tickets and I love to watch him play and enjoy Vol's games but more with him and he can't go. Should I go to Neyland or sons glorified scrimmage.

I'd say scrimmage. I knew there was always going to be one person at my games growing up, and that was my dad. I couldn't thank him enough for that.

Great that he is thinking of you, but you know you won't enjoy the game as much as his scrimmage. Make him promise to watch the dvr'ed game with you instead. Then you get that much more time together...
:salute:

He loves it. We will get to watch most of it. Looks like we will get to bless a family that has never been to Neyland as well.

Close. He said 315-320lb DTs are a thing of the past and we need more 270-290lb athletic DTs

Maybe one on a 4 man front. At times. Sounds to me more like he is deflecting for his lack of enough players the right size at this point.

I'm gonna take a different approach than others here and say that if you're always there at his games, practices, workouts, etc. that he might enjoy a one day parent free pass this one time.

My parents were always at all of my functions (even JV games and the like when I was a freshman) and I appreciated their support, but sometimes I wanted some space so I could hang out with my friends a little more freely.

If you've made it a point to always be there for him, he'll remember it and love you for it. But he probably wouldn't mind one day scrimmaging with the guys without being under a parent's eyes either.

Ya, I'll never understand where some parents feel the need to attend every single function. I had 4 siblings though, so it wasn't possible for my parents. I never cared though, they came to most of my games and missed some, I doubt any kid would care of their dad missed one or two games a year.

This. The ideal DT will always be a 300-315 pounder with great explosiveness, like Ndomukong Suh.

Those kind of guys are definitely rare, but it doesn't change the fact that every coach wants them. Just look at the recruitment of guys like Derrick Brown.

Yeah. I definitely think it's important to be there and support your kids as much as possible, but giving them some time to be on their own among their peers is also important IMO.

Well my dad that I can remember never made it to any o my games. He was always gone. I don't think or at least I wasn't saying you got to be at every game but I do believe its good to be there as much as you can. I remember when my daughter scored her first basket, she looked straight up at her dad with a big smile. That was priceless to me. By the way my dad had 3 million miles with Delta alone. Now that is some traveling.

I saw one projection that had us going against UNC in the belk bowl. I wouldn't mind a shot at a little revenge for that Music City Bowl game.
