Bama has 5* depth at like every position
Figure out the passing game, and TN will be hard to stop. PERIOD.
I feel like Bama's fanbase has essentially reached the point where winning a NC is expected and anything less is a huge disappointment. That fanbase is going to absolutely meltdown when they hire the next guy and he posts back to back 9-3 seasons or something equally "good but not great."
Saban is easily the best CFB coach of all time and the next guy, no matter who it is, won't even come close to matching his success. One of my high school friends is a Bama fan and actually has a realistic perspective on it and said that he knows it's not going to last forever and is just trying to appreciate the run while it lasts, but I think a huge percentage of their fans will lose their minds once they start trending downward, whether it happens under an aging Saban's watch or happens under the next guy.
If this happens, with our D and Shoop coaching them the sky is limit for this team.I have been saying this since the beginning of last season. A lot of people gripe about the offense, but I absolutely believe that if Dobbs can improve on his..umm..inconsistencies..this offense is unstoppable..by anybody. Every team is selling completely out to stop our running game and still not shutting it down. When Dobbs got and stayed hot in games, opponent defenses were devastated. It is a really difficult offense to defend even with flaws. Dobbs, and to be fair the WRs and TEs, have to make defenses pay. Cut out dead ducks, and dropped passes, and make a few more difficult plays, and the Offense could realistically put up record numbers.
If you go completely through the depth charts, I imagine Bama has more talent overall than UT. But each team can only play 11 guys at a time, and I think our starting 11 are comparable to theirs this year overall.
The thing to note though, is that Bama's offense has some major question marks along the OL and at QB heading into 2016 AND that they aren't returning much experience at RB either (talent yeah, experience, not so much). As much as I dislike him, I think Kiffin is a good OC and will scrape together an offense that is at least decent. But I expect Bama will have to lean more heavily on their defense in 2016 than they have the past few seasons.
I could definitely see them having a 10-2 season. Especially if Robinson can't come back and their OL is weakened further.
Agree on their question marks. They may have more overall talent but if UT has way more talent / experience at a key spot (like QB) that could give UT the edge.
On the RBs, I thought it was odd last year that they ran Henry as much as they did. If you look at Saban's history he usually uses two backs, last year he ran Henry constantly. Henry was good but he wasn't nearly as good as someone like Mark Ingram and even Ingram split carries. It makes me think the back-up RBs weren't ready. Maybe their RBs set the world on fire this year but it seems likely their back-ups will have to get better.
Agree-- Henry is a really good RB, but not Great... He mostly ran right up the middle getting to the next level before even being touched.... Hurd could have done the exact same thing behind that O line... folks are saying Henry is NOT impressing too many so far at Camp...
Disagree. I think LSU and Tennessee are more talented.
Just look back to the 2014 Sugar Bowl with Ohio State. At the time we all thought Alabama was more talented cause they always have the #1 recruiting class. However, in 2013, Ohio State's #2 rated class turned out to be a lot better than Alabama and showed it that night by how badly they outplayed them.
And then we saw in the draft 2 weeks ago just how much better Ohio State's 2013 class was than Alabama. Ohio State had 4 guys from that class go in the first round while Alabama had 0 (Henry and Robinson were Alabama's 2 best players from the 2013 class and both went in the 2nd round). Ohio State added Von Bell in the 2nd.
So if you go by the first 2 rounds, 5 Ohio State players were drafted from the 2013 class while only 2 Alabama players from that same class went in the first 2 rounds.
Just goes to show there isn't much difference between classes in the top 5.
Look back at the 2013 and 2014 classes. Tennessee and LSU have produced more good players if those classes are lower rated.
Tennessee and LSU are more talented than Alabama in 2016.
I'm gonna chyme in here. Very good points. To answer your command, the only other position I can think of is special teams all around. Maybe secondary.Bama best guys came back like Hand and Tim Williams. OJ Howard would have been a First rounder on combine numbers alone.
Winning a game vs another team doesn't always more talent.
Imma let you list the position where LSU and Vols are better than Bama. I'll give RB and QB(slightly).
