I watched the press conference and it was one of his best. He acknowledged that we aren't where we need to be, but expressed optimism for going forward. Struck the right tone.

Oh really? They didn't "want" to lose to Vanderbilt and South Carolina? Really changes my view. Butch is definitely the guy.

They are ok with the final result. 8-4 with a bum bowl game after having the east in a stranglehold and the sugar bowl on lock is acceptable to them. Loser mentality.

Gtfo with that bs. The coach said it was unacceptable. An outgoing senior points out that 8-4 is better than a lot of team in the country. Perhaps you wanted him to say he is ashamed to wear the power T and his entire career has been a failure?

Would that have been a better winning attitude?

Go ahead and shake your head. I knew we had a problem when TK got up there before Florida last year and regurgitated some of that Butch nonsense about 70% of the roster not playing a road game before. They buy into his garbage. Here is always an excuse prepared before the game is played. We expect to lose.

I actually would like him to say what is unacceptable. Is it unacceptable to gag away the east? Nah. That wasn't a goal we discussed.
Is it unacceptable to blow the sugar bowl? Nah. We won 8 games. Hasn't been done here in a while.
Is it unacceptable to lose to Vanderbilt? Nah. They are a resilient team with lots to play for.

You gtfo. Tennessee used to be a proud program. Now we are lookikg to collect participation trophies. Our former players are laughing at this, man. We've become a joke.

Need to take a break. Maybe you can forego watching the bowl and reset next year.

It's disappointing, but it shouldn't be personal. These players bust their ass. I am not going to criticize what he said.

In some years 8-4 would not be considered bad, but not in a year where expectations are high and the team has performed poorly

Lewis has been here 5 years. He's never won more than 8 games. The quote would have been better had he said we are disappointed "we didn't meet our goals but there are a lot of teams that would love to be 8-4 and I am proud to be a Vol." I am sick and tired of the vultures dying for a sound bite to demean this program. It's sad that our fans fans are just waiting to pounce.


Find something real to complain about like leaving a S&C slot open all damn year.

Will never, ever be ok with posters calling out a player who does everything the right way and goes above and beyond what's expected to help others the way LaTroy has. He's a better man than most.

Tee off on Butch all you want, he gets paid to take that.

If you are dissecting quotes from players so you can have something to complain about after you didn't get any ammo from Butch..... you are a loser.

I agree with Bruin and Ziti here. Too many folks ITT making mountains out of molehills.

The S&C position is a head scratcher.

The biggest thing I took away from today's presser was Butch's renewed urgency in recruiting. I'll bet we finish really, really strong.

From today, there are three or four things that Butch controls that will dictate whether he can take the program to the next level:

1. Repair the defense and play guns blazing in the bowl game. Play a complete game and leave no doubt against Nebraska.
2. Make the difficult and necessary staff changes.
3. Finish extremely well in recruiting (top 10-12)
4. Have the most competitive spring and QB competition imaginable.

All this disagreement just underscores the division in the fanbase and the program. Some people think 8-4 and a bowl is a successful season; some consider it a failure. And both sides lash out at the other for having a different mindset.

Big picture, UT no longer has an identity. The past decade has obfuscated who we are and what we expect. Do we expect to compete for championships every year and are disappointed when we fail... or are we satisfied with with beating a rival or two and getting to a bowl game? Are we a top-tier program or a mid-tier program? Because what is acceptable for one is unacceptable for the other and there will be no agreement until everybody buys into the same standards and expects the same results.

I haven't seen many say this was a successful season but it could have been worse. I certainly haven't but I damn sure am not saying our program is pathetic with a losing mentality.
