The thing is, there is a middle group that is trying to push for reason. This group says that 8-4 with the team we started the season with is unacceptable. This group says yes we looked bad on defense and really didn't play up to the teams capability all year. This group also recognizes that there are a lot of possible reasons for why things didn't go our way this year. However, if we can't stick with a coaching staff long enough for them to truly make a run then we will forever be mired in mediocrity. This year should have ended very differently but we got knocked on our butts. Butch had us going well enough to be hyped as hell going into this season so why all of the sudden is he Dooley level. I believe in lofty expectations but I also am able to objectively look at why those expectations might not be met. I will continue to support this team no matter who coaches or plays on Saturdays. Offer criticisms but make them constructive and not just emotional off the cuff "Fahr ERRBODY" criticisms.

Also, this is directed at you LA Vol. Just a general rant.

You just made me feel bad..but but freakin vandy man...they couldn't figure out a way to beat Vandy? Every time I almost slip back into posibutch mode..that thought is like a Chinese water torture drip...a fourteen point lead on stinking, pathetic...vanderbilt...smh..I just can't seem to let that go..

Guessing Butch had a hidden card then because Debord/Mahoney got last visit today

That makes it certain then that Trey Smith goes to Alabama. You have Saban and Meyer with all the hardware, then we bring in the "greatest staff in America." JK. GBO. Hope Debord finishes the deal.

I think this talk about not having a strength coach is way overblown.

1. The guy was here until well into the spring. Damage was done prior to his departure.
2. He was the strength coach for all sports, not just football.
3. He wasn't the one working with the team on a daily basis. The guy that did that is still here.
4. There was only 2-3 months that we were without his services before fall camp when the workout schedule changes drastically.
5. They don't do much lifting during the season.
6. It would have been harder to get a quality replacement at the time of his departure. Both college and NFL guys are heavily into their routines so it would have been difficult to pull someone at that time of the year. Better to wait till this time and you get your pick depending on how much you want to spend.

I would strongly disagree with one point for sure. The summer is the most important time for a football S&C program.

Can you or someone else confirm you are correct in that the head S&C wasn't primary working with the team?

From my memory the team went to Butch about him not doing a good job and they hated working with him directly. If he wasn't involved with the team why is any of this even a story.

His sister is a wild card. Name your card.

Nope. Ohio St or TN and tea leaves reading TN after our in home last week and official this weekend. Today's visits weren't changing his mind it's why he set it up to have them at school instead of lingering around his house all night pressuring him.

Color me shocked.

Come on man. You know the summer is the most important time for S&C.

On the other. You sure the head guy wasn't working directly with FB?

Lawson def worked with football team it was pretty obvious. I figured if anything the Director main focus is football team while assistants are spread across the other sports

I have zero experience with it, but I'd think the winter workouts are where you see bigger gains over the summer workouts. Reason being is the freshman class just completed their first season and finally get an offseason to concentrate on strength and conditioning.

OK, so a question ~

We didn't seem to get gassed, so the conditioning part seemed to be good if not great.

The strength part is the intriguing thing. Voldoctx81 has said that strength didn't have anything to do with our injuries, but our DB's couldn't get off blocks and set the edge. If it was poor tackling, that would be on position and DC, not S&C.

So how much "malpractice" can it be?

Depends on team/player goals. But generally you have all of the Winter and zero injuries to deal with so it's the best time.

All of it is critical just ask guys like Bates that have missed multiple springs/Summer's of workouts due to surgery etc. it takes a rare breed to be able to miss as many workouts as a guy like bates has been held out of

The guy that is working with the team now was his assistant and worked solely with football. Yes, his primary focus was football just because of the sheer number of players in one sport.

Is the summer important? Yes, but it's not like they were not working out. They had the same routine as when the head guy was there it was just administered by someone else. Not having a head guy is overblown in my opinion. The most important time is from post bowl game until summer which he was present for most that. The two or so months after he left until fall practice began isn't that significant IMO. Better off holding off until you can get the right person in there.

I wish they'd make another run at Tommy Moffit. He's a Tennessee boy that needs to come home!

Another key point for the summer being more important is its the first time for all the freshmen that aren't EEs. Huge time for them
