Braves saved 65 million in the deal and got a first round pick and a couple of other young players and cam Maybin. Experts called it one of the best deals in baseball because the Braves rid themselves of the horrible boss jr contract. With baseball these days, it's not like trading baseball cards but so much of the financial aspect. Craig wasn't worth the 65 million that was gained for three years of baseball with this year being what was then his walk year.

They have better kids coming than any of those guys. Wait and watch. The old guys were one year stop gaps to try to just be decent this year with a new ballpark. Colon just fell off the face of the earth. He will get picked up and probably beat the crap out of us.

I hope you're right but Wood is something like 8-0 with a sub 2 ERA and is an All star. We have better guys than that in the farm system?

I agree with this. Just stinks that we don't have a closer and that he has blown 7 saves. He has one job!

Just ribbing you. I know, he has no confidence. Of course I wouldn't either if I was leading the league in blown saves and I had to go in facing that lineup.

Yeah I feel like for the most part they've done a good job, but there have been a few head scratchers. Out young starters with teheran, Folty and Newcomb to along with Alex Wood would be a serious rotation

Teheran just doesn't impress me. He's so inconsistent. He can be great one night for five or six innings, then have a horrible inning. Or he can be great for one game, and then the next game give up eight runs in three innings. Folty is coming into his own. Newcomb will get there but had a rough outing against Houston… Of course, most pitchers have rough outings against them. They are tearing the cover off the baseball. Dickey has really started pitching very well last few games. If he can continue pitching like this, I wouldn't mind seeing him stay on the staff for at least another year.

I don't feel like they should get credit for "best deal in baseball" when it's just fixing a terrible mistake and dumping a horrible contract. In the end we lost an elite closer.

That's like complimenting the arsonist for how well he put out the fire he started.

Agree

Yeah Newcomb is a rookie and Houston is in a league of their own, hard to fault him for that. You're right about Teheran's inconsistency. When he's good, he's really good. But he can be very bad. Folty is a head case. If he can mature and settle down, he will be our ace in the future imo

Long term success? Yes we do. Wood is an arm injury waiting to happen as well. He has had a great 1/2 year. Not saying he is a bad pitcher either. The trade we made that included him was horrible. We have guys coming better than Tehran Folty and Newcomb too. Folty and Newcomb are just the beginning. Number one or two farm system in all of baseball right now is the Atlanta Braves. It was rebuilt from 30th by trading for international and domestic draft spots ect. It is a game of numbers because most prospect do not work out. So if you have a ton of them then you will get several who will do great and others to deal while in the minors for known commodities. When Alex Wood does it over three to four years then you can talk about it. That deal was horrible however no matter how you look at it. Even a half of year of what he has done is more than we got in return. They just wanted that one guy so much and he was a bust. Mainly due to off the field. He only played in like 30 games before getting the boot.

It was a new GM cleaning up Frank Wren the worse GM in my opinion in all of baseball, mistakes. So yes, it was a great deal and the Padres were the only team who would take that contract off their hands. It would have been great to have CK closing games so we could finish 15 games out instead of 30. He would've been gone after this year. We built our farm system up using the 65 million to get like last year the top international player that was available in the international pool bid.

Think of what Jones has done cleaning up the Dooley mess. The mess was not his making but he's done a good job of getting us to the point where we are relevant again. The Braves were in terrible shape when they finally started dealing guys to rebuild. They were one more good season perhaps but with all the guys being free agents and a horrible farm system, if they had not started doing things like they did including CK, they would be down for about 10 years before they could be rebuilt.

Obviously you just follow the major league team and what you see on TV and do not follow the organization as a whole and what the long range plan actually is. Frank Wren was fired in 14 and so I give credit to the guys who came in and have put us in the right direction. So, no one is giving Wren credit for putting out the fire he started. If Jones has success, are we going to say he gets no credit because of the mess created by Dooley. It is illogical. Study the timeline and the long range goals and plans and where the organization is depth wise then go from there.

Fair, and I hope you're right about our future pitchers. Only argument I would make is that in today's game, nearly every pitcher is an arm injury waiting to happen

I follow the farm system and know our top prospects. I'm just concerned that they won't pan out and we see what's wood is doing. But Hector looked like a homerun at the time

He sure was trying to get to home plate. Not just on the baseball field was the issue. I was directing that at my friend o baby and jave who seems he is in a bad place as a Braves and Vols fan right now. O baby is a great guy and poster so sorry if it came across as harsh. Most Braves fans and baseball fans in general do not look at it as much in depth. Not a knock on their fandom. It is like most Vol fans are not on VN. Doesn't make them less a fan just not as crazy as some of us. LOL :)

Tehran has been a huge disappointment, he was hyped as being the next hall of famer

Fair point, and Wren really did wreck the entire franchise.
