I'm going to need to keep this one quick, but let's go. The smoke has lifted from Neyland Stadium following another cigar filled extravaganza against Bama and Tennessee faces off against Kentucky, for what should be the "Battle of the Barrel". This is Danny White's next task... Find Brian Niedermeyer and ask him where he left it. Roll it out, take beer off the name and let's battle.
Keys to Victory:
1. QB or not QB? That is the Question: Kentucky fans were hoping that Brock Vandergriff was the second coming of Will Levis, and he absolutely has been! Putting up Levis like numbers over the season, and yet curiously, they are displeased. Welp, that's the breaks baby. Now, we have the possibility of facing either of two quarterbacks who can't throw the ball, and one who can't throw the ball even worse. It's a nice proposition for the Vols. Vandergriff is a better QB, but is immobile. Gavin Wimsatt is very mobile but has a 4-1 completion to interception ratio. Read that last one again carefully. 8 completions, 2 picks.
2. Click it: The Vols have had a series of near misses on deep balls the last 3 games and the offense has been curiously ineffective. Kentucky does have a solid defense. We are looking at two scenarios here. This is a drag it out game with few points or Tennessee begins to click and absolutely rolls. It's really anyone's guess what happens here.
Prediction:
Tennessee rolls out in black on a gorgeous November evening and the defense has a feast. Kentucky plays both quarterbacks, neither to a great effect and the Vols come up with 2 interceptions. The Tennessee offense is not wide open, but good enough to get the job done. There is progress, but it is not destination.
