The conflict between the "Battlin' Smiths" illustrates one of the difficulties of recruiting---players who have never met instinctively disliking, if not hating, each other. Ramar was from Metropolitan Detroit and Tyler was from southern Tennessee, so there was no long-term basis for their clashing of wills. But, it happened anyway. A coach/recruiter would almost need a degree in psychology to be able to foresee a disruptive breakdown happening like this one apparently did. I guess it might come down to just avoiding the recruitment of "me first" types of players. A coach will miss out on some good ones by doing that, but he might be saving himself endless grief and considerable disharmony on his team.
