I follow recruiting enough to know we have a great class coming in if all of them sign. My question is this:

Are there a limited number of each * rating? Let's say Rivals rates it's top 250 players; are the top 50 considered 5* and the 51st player is a 4* no matter how good he is?

Not necessarily, but you typically see around 25-30 5* and the rest of the top 250 4* with a few 4* outside the top 250. I would guess they have a general rule about the numbers but nothing concrete.

So if a team pulls in 3-5, 5* players that is in the neighborhood of 20% of the top rated players.

First round draft picks so to speak. Not even kidding, that's why iirc

Probably a little smaller percentage but that's close. Looked at rivals and 247 the past 3 years and both ended up around 32-34 5* players per year. They sit in the 20's and add stars as the year goes on, esp after the all star games.

Rivals indicates that they limit the number of 5 star players to about 25 - 30 and the number of 4 star players to top 250 - 300 players.
