I realize there are a lot of people that will want to lecture me about the insignifigance of "stars" when referring to a recruits rank. That being said, do any of the recruiting guru's have any idea which 5 star recruits are in play and which ones we have the best chances of landing?

Lache Seastrunk
Michael Dyer
Kyle Prater
Jeff Luc
Ego Ferguson

We probably won't get any. Maybe 1 off of that list.

R Powell

Prater and Dyer are the two we have the best chances to get

Not necessarily a guru, but here are the Rivals 5* players I think we have a shot at.

Legit chance
Jeff Luc
J.R. Ferguson
Kyle Prater
Michael Dyer
Lamarcus Joyner

Long shots
Ronald Powell
Lache Seastrunk
Robert Woods

Probably no chance, but our coaches haven't given up
Chris Martin (ND commit)
Seantrel Henderson
Matt Elam (UF commit)

Also, I think we are leading for Demarco Cobbs, who I expect will be a 5* by NSD.

Good chance:
none

So-So (20-30%):
Kyle Prater

Slim (2-10%):
Ronald Powell
Lamarcus Joyner
Jeff Luc
JR Ferguson

Practically None (1% or less)
Lache Seastrunk
Michael Dyer

IMO

Ego is our best shot out of current Rivals 5 stars, but the rankings will change a few times before signing day. Who knows, maybe Jacques or Markeith will pick up a fifth before signing day.

Why are you so low on Ego? We have alot of things going for him. Monte and Orgeron will be all over him, he is at Hargrave which will be playing against UT's JV this year in Knoxville, and it sounds like he really doesn't have a favorite. If Miami is our main competition, I can't help but to like our chances...

i think this is the most realistic list. im not a guru at all i just go off of the articles i read on here and what the gurus on here have to say. we're doing the best we can with prater but its so hard to compete with usc right now. and jeff luc is in floridas backyard, thats something big working against us. nothing is impossible though

The reason why I was so low on Ferguson was that in recent interview he hasn't mentioned us when talking about places he's considering for official visits.

Just think, none the the guys we landed so far have seen a packed Neyland Stadium. Or experienced the Vol Walk packed. It will change those precentages quickly.:D

Not sure about now, but last time I looked there were only 15 5 star players. Point being the number usually gets up to around 25-30 players with 5 stars.

If we have a turn around season then Kiffin and staff look amazing for turning the program around...I think we could steal a lot of talent because we will look like the new team that is heading to the top....I believe that until we prove what we have on the field and the recruits see the offensive in a game...Then we have a hard time pulling top recruits for the offensive side.

Not a guru but these percentages seem quite wrong. You must concede that with Kiffins hire you would have had Bryce Brown in the Practically None column.

I think Seastrunk goes to LSU,
I think Joyner is a lock to FSU,
I think we could get Luc but I say it is much less likely than not,
I think we have a really good chance on Ferguson, I think we have a great shot at Powell especially after we whup UCLA,
and I think Kyle Prater may or may not come. His dad loves our coaches and wants us (good friends with Fultons dad) but Ambles and Milton provide more competition at that position and he could be the Julio Jones of Illinois. I think Zooker is going to pull out a surprise there. If Cobbs comes here we do not need him anyway. Ambles could get a 5th star also.

Bringing up Bryce Brown is so different. We had a brand new coaching staff. The same newness isn't there. We aren't instantly going to turn some kids.

At this point, we may get 1 current 5* and Ambles may move up to a 5*. Thats about it for now.

Granted, much can change if we have a good season, but it still likely won't be a drastic amount.

I agree with the first two, thats why I don't believe much shot at either. I don't think we have much of a shot at Powell at all, he a Florida/USC battle, we would have to make up a lot of ground on his official visit. JR Ferguson I believe has cooled on us a lot recently. He and Arie Kouandjio want to go to the same school and I think both will end up at Miami, after talking to Arie last night. It will depend on if we can get an official from him to stay in it. Prater is who i think we have the best shot it. If he comes out of his upcoming unofficial USC visit i think we have a good shot at him, but Illinois and Oklahoma aren't going to roll over. If we can bring him and his best friend Corey Cooper for an official together and both love it here, I like our chances.

I believe we already have a 5 star in Smith. I think he is going to end up a 5 star by the end of the year. IMO

Smith probably won't end up a 5* just due to the fact he's shut his recruitment down, didn't really go to a ton of camps, and won't play the best competition. So even if he ends up being a 5* type talent, he won't have that ranking.

That's all very true but I just have a feeling he will end up a five star.

Our best chance at a 5 star is probably Prater. Ego Ferguson is a possibility as well. We have 5 star-type talent already committed though in several positions. Ambles would be a 5 star were it not for his mysterious off-the-field issue, Jacques Smith really should be a 5 star IMO -- he's really a man-child, and Matt Milton could end up being one of the best receivers in this class.

You don't need me to tell you, but stars are worthless. These guys are the best at getting guys that can play and you can't have enough guys who can play. They are going to hit on far more than they miss.
