Id heard the vols were looking for 23 or 24 committments we have 20 so looking at our c-list what direction or pos. players should our staff be focussing on the most. I see no cb in this class ? And why 2 kickers in this class ? and are there any hidden surprises out there as far as any of our committed kids or maybe one coming to us that may surprise us all. Thank you for any input that you may have.

Welcome to the board. I'm not sure if they're going in any certain direction as much as just taking what they can get. There are still some good prospects that we are hoping for. One would be Warren....utvols83 summed it up nicely in this post.

As for the cornerbacks, do we really need any in this class? We have Morely, Hefney, Fellows, Wade and a few others all returning. Plus they might turn a couple from this years class into backs. I think we're ok at that position right now.

We got a couple of good kickers in this class. You have to get the kickers at some point, so why not now?

I think we're looking at taking 27-28. I would imagine that a couple will not qualify, and the kicker Cunningham will greyshirt and not count against us this year. Walter Fisher didn't back-count to last year like some think because we took a full load last year. We also have JT Mapu counting this year, even though he isn't included on commit lists. Right now we've got 20 commits that will count this year, that's swapping Cunningham out for Mapu. There a pretty realistic chance that Dorian Davis, Dustin Lindsey, and Brent Vinson don't qualify......although there's a chance all three make it, each situation is different, so some stand a better chance than the others. There's also a chance that Gerald Williams still doesn't make it in. They are having a lot of problems getting him cleared, and the longer it drags out.....the more grim it looks. I hope we get him in because he's a BIGTIME player. We also can't ignore the fact that Goggans may decide to jump ship and go elsewhere. So, we have 20 right now.....but we will likely have atleast two not qualify. That leaves us with about 18 guys committed that will likely make it in. If we're looking to take about six more guys, that will put us right at the 25 limit on commits that we can actually bring in. Now, the number of guys we sign can go up depending on how things are looking with kids qualifying. All I can say is that we're looking to take 27-28 commits and the coaches know what they're doing. We're probably also going to have some guys that are currently on the roster leave or be put on medical hardship.

Thanks for the insight. So Goggans may be the only player whom may change his mind. did't know that about vinson hope he makes it - looks like a playmaker. As for cb hardest pos to play and coach like to have a good one in every class. Know anything about the kid from Smryna TN. last years class last name Johnson seen him several times looked great as coverconer maybe a little weak against the run but very fast. Just wondering if anybody knew about his progess.

You're talking about Marsalous Johnson. I think he's going to be a solid corner. The knock on him was that he was short, but the kid has great leaping ability. I think his height shouldn't hurt him. As far as run support, I think he'll be fine. In most of the scrimmage videos that I saw before the season started, you would see him, #31, sticking his nose in there on a lot of tackles. He's agressive and isn't afraid of contact at all. I put him in the same mold of Inky Johnson, small but fast and isn't afraid to hit. I think he'll do well.

Great summary utvols83, thanks

I know this is off topic a little, but what is the deal with G. Williams. Is it grades. It seems to me if it were just grades then he would go to prep school or jc. Could someone clear this up for me. Thanks.
