No surprise in Kelly comments but I thought our composite rating (high school recruits plus transfers) ranked a bit higher.

"Kelly was asked whether the presence of Oregon and Washington in the Big Ten will affect UCLA’s recruiting. He said it would not. He said the reason that would not matter is because the only thing that matters in recruiting now is Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) money."

But the other threads tell me it is because our staff can’t close? I’m confused?

IMO this is the biggest threat to UT football (and other sports). We now have the football coach we needed and I personally don't think he'll leave unless he gets frustrated that we can't attract top 10 player talent. We must support the program via legitimate methods (Volunteer Club, Spyre) to help get the athletes we need to be top tier or we'll be in jeopardy of losing a great coach.
Just an opinion but I feel pretty strongly about this one.

Yeah, I call bull. NIL is a big factor yeah but it’s not everything. Development and relationships still matter like they used to. I’m gonna guess he’s saying that because in his world at UCLA, there’s not a lot to go around in terms of NIL so to him he thinks that’s all recruits care about which isn’t true.

About 70 years ago I heard that "money was the root of all evil" and that "money talks". I'm in my 80s now and have found those says to be pretty accurate. Most 18 year olds with the choice of learning from a great coach or learning from a smooth talker who can and will arrange to put a million dollars in their pocket will go with the latter.

More evidence: BYU’s Mark Pope blames himself for losing transfer guard Ques Glover over NIL money

That’s true for UCLA.. cause they can’t recruit on winning championships or developing players in NFL 😂

Idk. Seems like we spent plenty on Nico. Also landed the highest ranked wr we’ve ever landed.
Last year. And Matthews this year is nice, but it seems we're missing on a lot of guys last minute. We're putting together a decent class, but wasn't long ago we thought we would have recruiting locked down with NIL. Now, the excuse is that players aren't worth throwing money at and if that's all they want, they aren't a fit. There won't be many of these inner city kids turn down money.

I'm sure offense will be fine, but it looks like we're gonna need to spend for an upgraded defense.

Yeah, something seems amiss to me with our recruiting. 14th on Rivals, 7th in the SEC? Not what I expected at all for a program that just came off an 11 win season and an Orange Bowl victory. I expected minimum to be top 10.

this class is better than “ decent”. And with the development talent of this staff, they are beyond decent.

I don’t care about recruiting rankings. I care about how productive the players are while they are here. We had so many 5 star busts under late Fulmer and Butch, I stopped caring about rankings long ago.

Well, the best ranked classes win all the championships, so there must be something to it.

How have those recruiting rankings worked out for Texas A&M so far? Also, Oregon made the national championship game twice in 5 years with their highest recruiting ranking being #9 over that span. Most of that time they were in the low teens, and as low as 32. Player development is more important than recruiting rankings.

We’ve had rival programs negative recruiting against us for literal years now telling recruits, their families and their coaches that we’re getting the death penalty and to stay far away from us. That’s not something that goes away overnight. Plus, I feel like a lot of the college football world is waiting to see if we’re for real or not because a lot of people think last year was a fluke. It’ll work itself out we just have to give it time.

But it literally did go away overnight. Programs recruited against us, saying we'd get the death penalty, and then it was ruled not to be the case. We are 2 months removed from the ruling. Recruits know this now and have had plenty of time to factor that in. We cant use that as an excuse anymore. And incidentally, you'd think the ruling would actually put other programs in a bad light in the eyes of recruits. They told players one thing, but the opposite happened. They should feel at least a LITTLE deceived by those other programs that spelled doom and gloom for us.

The W/L record is just testament to the superb job CJH has done with less than top tier talent and a less than a full roster.

We are 10th on 247 but our player average is 6th The player average is most important IMO

Win ball games. Recruit better athletes. Win Conference Championships. Recruit even better athletes. Win Nattys. Ten guys drafted every year. Recruits commit to your school. Your assistant coaches get poached for head coaching jobs. Highly talented coaches replace those that advance. NIL money keeps coming. Win more ball games. Sign more 5Stars. It is all a process. This model works until coach loses control and the inmates start running the asylum. Anyone have a better model for college football success?
